Why soul-binding items when equppied is a good thing for trade and fun.
Soul binding would be fine behind specific drops that either aren't intended to be traded, or they don't want to be gated by the community
but aside from that its got a serious number of drawbacks and feels especially bad in ARPGs when you made the mistake of bringing some friends and now find you can't even share equipment. |

" The OP talks about binding when EQUIPPED, not pick up. | |
Does this work like Minecraft's Curse of Binding where you put on a tab, and then can't take it off again ever, except through dying? *imagines hordes of glassy-eyed exiles huddled around towns, stinking to high heaven, all clad in grimy, rumpled, pit-stained, lice-ridden kaftans, pleading and crying out but two words:
"Kill me" [19:36]#Mirror_stacking_clown: try smoke ganja every day for 10 years and do memory game

Can someone remove the Diablo 3 garbage topic please? Everything suggested in this thread ruined Diablo 3. Instead of suggesting to turn a perfect solid game like PoE (especially the itemhunting, which HAS to be the most rewarding thing - soul binding items are soul crushing and would make me stop playing INSTANTLY) into the dumpsterfire that is called "Don't you have a phone? Diablo 3" simply continue playing that garbage fest.
This really makes me angry, since ideas like that can only come from 20> year olds who NEVER in their life had the chance to experience the diablo 2 prime time. no one wants your WoW crap here. |

" The idea of RMT as a reason to not soul-bind is literally the only thing that makes me think that even "soul bind on pickup" is a good idea =.= Fuck RMTers, seriously. |

" It works like "equip your Tabula Rasa, and it can no longer be placed in trade windows". The OP is talking about items essentially disappearing off the market once a player actually uses them, as opposed to being able to use an item and then sell it once you no longer need it. The idea is to create a way wherein items leave the economy, rather than being available whenever the owner would like to sell them. The main drawback is that soulbinding renders an item completely, utterly, irrevocably worthless. Once bound, the item is very literally without value, as it cannot be exchanged and thus the only importance it has is whatever limited importance it has to its owner. This would devastate the leveling item market and essentially force all characters to level SSF, as no one would ever sell any decent leveling drop they could instead use themselves. OP states this is a way for Grinding Gear to massively increase drop rates, allowing players to find their own rare items rather than requiring them to be derived via trade. 'Finding > funding' is the idea; people want to find baller gear on their own. The issue is that massively decreased rarity would still drive prices into the toilet, even if soulbinding meant almost all such drops disappeared as soon as they were used. If everyone can find their own gear freely and easily, trade basically ceases to matter and items are worthless. This doesn't mean "everybody gets great drops!", it means "great drops no longer exist". The game loses any longevity that item progression once gave it, and soulbinding does not make this any better whatsoever. If one feels that would be the better game to play, that is an opinion they're entirely entitled to. I can't even say they're wrong - they might be, but nobody's ever built that game (no, Diablo doesn't count) to test whether a game with no such thing as rare drops can work based on sheer depth of play. Might be an interesting thing to try sometime. Just not in Path of Exile. She/Her

" The problem is GGG has known about the RMT issue since the alpha days and refuse to do anything about it except for banning the RMT spammers. At least that is what the public sees. Remember when I won a screenshot contest and made everyone butt-hurt? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
