EXP LOSS POLL

Ok. Let's imagine the penalty "Your computer crashes, your cat dies, and your house bursts into flames.".
You are going to tell me "But that would be a crazy penalty.", to which I could simply answer, like you did:
"Death is meant to suck. You seem to fail to understand the basic concepts of failure, and learning from said failures".

If the argument can be used to defend insane penalties, then it's an awful argument. Please don't use that kind of crap.

Your analogies have to be relevant in magnitude to be cogent, you know, convincing, or even taken seriously. Yours are neither.
I've seen several discussions about the xp death penalty over the years, and I've also suggested a solution before:

Change it to lose the xp you've gained in the preceding hour of play.

- The game already keeps track of xp gain (for the xp per hour statistic), so this should be fairly trivial to implement.
- You will, at most, lose 1 hour of xp gain. On average, it will be half an hour lost.
- With a little luck, you've just had a break or only started playing a few minutes before, and xp loss will be barely noticeable.

This is still a penalty, but one that's more fair for the vast majority of players.

It could even be expanded to 'accumulate' xp loss, so if you die again within the next hour, xp loss is 2x the xp gained in the preceding hour, next time 3x xp gained, and so forth.

This would make the occasional death much less of a problem, but still makes it impossible to level up by just bum-rushing everything, and should give you the idea that you're doing it/something wrong.
Player numbers are plummeting.
80% of deaths here are just not because you did something wrong, but because the game is faulty itself. Freeze - and you can do nothing, and helplessly just watch you die. And the penalty sucks. It punishes us for dev's bad design. Hate it.

this "if you hate the death penalty - just dont die duuuh?" argument
is like "if you're homeless - then just buy a house duuh?"
yeah allright

Exp loss is frustrating more than anything else.

When pushing higher levels you just lose so much time, and most of the deaths in this game are due to lags or to stupid league mechanics, have you seen how hard those archers hit in Legion? it's beyond ridiculous sometimes

Yep, can't count how many times I've facerolled a tier of maps or content and out of the blue some league mechanic or ridiculously high damage yellow suddenly does a one hit kill. Their content balancing is pretty much non-existent. You can tell the devs don't even play their own game.

I've said it before, when I die 90% of the time it is the game's fault either by shitty currency drops where I'm waiting for better gear waaaaaaaaaaaay too long or awful balancing/freezing/screen clutter. The forums have vastly more support from neckbeards for the death penalty than the game at large, the vast majority of players stop playing this game for this one reason, or the idiotic implementation of trade, because both of them suck and are very poorly thought out.
I don't have any issue with the mechanic of exp loss itself, but 90% of my deaths are because of massive lag spikes/server issues/crashes etc. Basically, the devs don't have a fucking clue how to maintain an online server and the player base suffers for it.

Many people here dont understand so many things.

7)Some people who are against rework or removal of death penalty, play HC. There they use ALT+F4 (or even illegal scripts) to shut down game client to avoid this penalty. This is hyporcisy at its finest.

*facepalm* you say that end then cap this off with strawman about illegal scripts?

points 1-6 being laughably factless don't help, either. dying at clvl 95+ in d2 wasn't anything like this...

D2 is 20 years old game, comparing anything to it is simply stupid.
There is tons of other RPG games. So try to compare it to whole market rather than only one outdated game.

I know at least 4 people in this game who use scripts in POE.
So yeah most of lazy kids these days use scripts for flasks or instant log out. You must be very young to be so naive and think that people dont cheat in this world.

Aditionally if you are willing to respond to my posts, write some arguments like an adult person. Otherwise dont even bother, because that is just waste of time and insult to your own family to bahave like that.

Make every area level start at 100.

Every new Character starts at level 100.

Still have to play through the acts and quests for extra passive points.

Gamers rejoice as they no longer are forced to weekly slog through repetitive content over and over again just to get where they would rather be.

The 20,000 people spending all their time trying to scam trade, lowball prices, and in general thieve via the current crude and crappy trade system take to reddit and cry about things no longer being worth anything for a week or two, until the market settles out.

And then the game dies because there is barely any incentive left to play?
