EXP LOSS POLL
Maybe someone has already come up with this idea, I can't be arsed to read the whole thread but one potential solution to this would be introduce a quest similar to the bandit quest that affects the exp loss penalty at the expense of experience gained.
For example: Reward 1 - you never lose xp on death but have a 50% penalty applied to all xp gained Reward 2 - as it is currently, gain xp at the usual rate, lose 10% on death Reward 3 - dying resets all xp gained on the current level but you receive a 5% bonus to all xp gained Have quest start after killing Act 10 Kitava since the xp penalty is basically irrelevant up to this point and xp gain penalties / bonuses wouldn't mess up the act content levelling curve. Unlike the bandit quest you should never be able to alter your choice. Last edited by Randall#0850 on Aug 16, 2019, 10:50:53 AM

" The build-up is extremely short, also the execution. If the disc comes too close it's up to your current state of defenses as it'll stay for a short while. If you ever get on top of it you're dead, no questions asked usually (Unless dodge) So while it's visible, in the clutter during the release of Legion there is barely a way to deal with it in a sensible manner, you have to be mobile during the whole time, even my Ed/Contagion build was hit 3 times this league by one spawned underneath... and that character is generally always in motion. So... you can evade it, it just needs more skill then dealing with uber-elder long-term, and that in a normal map. Hurray for balance! GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. |

Diablo 3 became more and more simplified and casual friendly. We all know how that ended. Death penalty is a must, no matter what you think. With no XP penalty, I would ALWAYS go glass cannon on softcore, which wouldn't be great for the game at all.

Well... They could always tie the penalty with your level versus content level.
For example a level 90 character dying on a t16 map would lose only 1% exp while if a level 90 character dies on a t1 map he would lose 20% exp. Great Bosses(which are normally already a pain to gather the pieces to fight them) could have no exp penalty at all. This way the game would be incentivizing playing high level content and fighting bosses and "punishing" people that level up doing under level content. |

In my opinion xp loss on death is the simplest and most effective way of preventing progression by brute force. Dying should be bad, if there was no repercussion it wouldn't matter if character has 800 or 8000 hp, the one with most kills/minute would be better off.
The way the xp penalty on death is handled now is still pretty forgiving as it shouldn't really have a noticeable impact before around level 75 unless character you are playing really dies from one crit from white mobs. Now imagine if there wasn't any xp penalty. You enter location/map kill 3 enemies, die.... and you have made progress still. You want a game where you create character, run bot and come back week later to play your level 95 character? Because that is how you get one. I know it is frustrating to lose most of your xp earned in last 1-2 hours due to own error, bad luck or just not knowing the content, but it is not like you didn't progress at at. Items dropped and skill gem xp are not affected so even if you hit a xp wall on your way to leveling your character to lvl 90 or beyond you are still making progress. |

I think EXP loss should somehow be increased at low levels and decreased at high levels but never eliminated, after all its the only way to make people worry about not being killed (except perhaps loss of items)
Maybe it could be changed to "lose all exp gained in the last 5 minutes" or "lose exp gained since you entered the map/area" this way you would lose a considerable amount of exp early-game but not hours of gameplay later on |

" So... 3 enemies down and you're down a map portal. Good luck sustaining your maps that way. Between you saying all this and the 8/40 by your name, I think it's safe to assume that what's "hidden" in your profile is that you don't have any characters remotely near 100. So you are defending a system... You've never really experienced yourself. My guides: Summon Homing Missile (SRS) | Act II starter RF | Budget Oro's Flicker Strike
