EXP LOSS POLL
Did not expect that much "cleaning" to be honest Oo
" Well, there are clear/good reasons to not just answer feedback from the devs to be honest, however, I agree using reddit as a primary way of communicating regarding some things really does not feel great. " There could arguably be reasons for the lack of death report ( the player needing to investigate himself ), but given the complexity of the game and the xp loss on death .... the game would be better with one yeah. Jonathan explained in the past that it's hard to implement because there are many different sources of damage ( and likely for other reasons, I don't remember precisely ), and that he would like to have such a feature, but that it isn't there for technical reasons. I find it quite hard to believe that after many years nobody would have found a way to do it so my guess is that they have(had?) never had the intention to actually implement it to begin with. Hopefully, they will, one day. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Last edited by Fruz#6137 on Jul 8, 2019, 8:33:54 PM

They always say it's for technical reasons until they pull their heads out of their ass and do it/find time to do it/focus on that matter.
Either way, it would just be a band-aid, but at least a welcome one at that but still doesn't change the fact that death penalty does tremendously more harm than good. It will cater to the excuses about it however. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all. Last edited by Crackmonster#7709 on Jul 9, 2019, 3:40:43 PM

" Yes, it sometimes feels as if Reddit is the actual forum, and here just a noob trap. " Sometimes they are simply trying to protect their vision of the game, until they find out a way to both fix an issue and keep true to that vision. Here, I find it hard to believe that they couldn't do that, even more so as most players that so strongly dislike the penalty would be willing to compromise to be rid of it, making many approaches viable, whether it's through implementing equipment that removes it while handicapping the character, opening an extra league, reworking the mechanics, offering alternative penalties, etc... It's such a shame because I think it's otherwise one of the (if not THE) best ARPGs out there. I definitely find it a lot better than Diablo 2, and the only reason I play Diablo 3 over PoE is this specific penalty (Diablo 3 lacks a lot to make character building feel significant). |

XP loss is great. Forces you not play this game like a complete schmuck.

" It's always frustrating to see comments that seem to show a lack of understanding of the complaint. Yes, the penalty does a great job at pushing you to play properly at intermediate levels. At high levels, though, it becomes abusive, and I think we can have the former without the latter. |

" More like the opposite The XP penalty will make not care anymore at all about dying since you can't loose XP at 0 Need more brains, exile?

" I wish to further improve on this. Keeping myself going here into far away fantasy and dreams.. With above change is the perfect time to heavily increase experience required at higher levels, maybe double it or more in the 90+ levels, increasingly. A removal of death penalty will heavily increase leveling rates for regular players, and those on the top, well they make a joke of the time it takes to 100. Remember in the early days of PoE? It took a long time, now it's less than a week. These two changes combined, will make leveling more rewarding, still take a long time but you now trod away at the pace you can handle and the game doesn't bend you over and shafts you when you fail/game lags, desync(yes it's still very real and most of my deaths come from desync fails), etc. I also wish to add on the topic of desync that there is some sort of problem with this where it messes up more than it should. Say, if i notice i am desyncing, one should think that while my client doesn't know its true server location, i should be able to hold shift and send that attack-in-place to the server so it should kill and keep me safe regardless. This is in my experience not the case, and more often than not when i desync i need to get out of it ASAP or i just die not being able to leech etc. My internet connection is fine, nothing special though, but lockstep is not a choice for me it's a strutter fest so is it for my friends, and desync is still very much alive even if much reduced. We need an integrated /oos hotkey, please GGG you are 5 years+ late on this. You need this because you failed to make the game mechanics work flawlessly. At least as a band-aid until such a time where you might fix that aka never. We need that integrated hotkey. I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

" I disagree. My highest leveled characters are at 95, and since I don't have very much time to play, it is a bit of a challenge to level a char that high within a league. Having an XP penalty forces you to either make better builds, or choose maps/delves more wisely. XP loss makes the game more challenging. Atleast that's how I see it. A lvl 99 char is something that (for casual players atleast) should be very hard to obtain, and not somehting you should get for "free" by just grinding whatever content comes your way. |

Ok the original purpose of the experience penalty was to prevent players from just zerging high level content, but that's not really what it's doing. Portals are doing that better than the exp penalty, similarly the game already just punishes you for running high level content because the return is worse than running low level content.
It's pretty unclear that it's serving it's intended purpose anymore. The entire end game design seems weird having a mechanic like that in mind, there's not gradual gains in difficulty, it's sort of just out of the blue spikes. Often you die and you just go back and you have no problem anymore and no idea what killed you. As the game stands now it seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't need solving, and a false signal from the game that you're out of your depth and you should play somewhere else.
