EXP LOSS POLL

I'm all for changes, but that change directly makes it so even the worst of players could grind their way to 100. Leveling to 100 would take no time or effort even with that penalty. There needs to be something in the game to separate a great from a shit player, especially since they already made it so any shit player can grind OP enough gear to clear all the content.
Need a new signature, cuz name change. I dunno though. I guess this seems fine. Yeah, this is good.

Again, the idea I showed is equivalent to what we currently have. Crappy players are going to get cumulative penalties up to the point where the experience gained gets so slow that it feels non-existant (if a character gets killed mutiple times in a row, it will only be gaining a tiny fraction of what it would normally gains). It serves as a much better deterrent to zerging than a penalty that cannot be applied because you already reached the floor.
Oh yeah, I didn't fully get what you were saying. I thought the length was cumulative, that probably would work.

Game design logic 101

recently read a post from a reddit user that had a conversation via pm
with chris literally was worried about 5 people who complained about the penalty being reduced from 15% to 10% :D

well before i talk to much here is the actual reddit post

scroll down to the comment from "OverdriveA"

the penalty is criticized like every weak
and GGG still worrying about MTX...

Wouldn't that just move the punishment to the other side? The exp bonus becomes the standard, and dying means you're getting punished with less exp than other people. No matter how you cut it, dying will always have a punishment associated with it. I mean you can also look at the reverse of that and say people are given a great reward for not dying by not losing 10% of their exp.

i think its not that 10% its the time people losing they (me included) feeling like they're wasted time to get up to a certain amount of exp
and then it simply gets erased
imagine making my job as a musician i work hours upon hours lets be it 10 hours on a new song and before i finish it the program says nah dude you lose 3 hours of your progress...
feels time wasting

this thread indicates that people want to do poorly, not get penalized, but get rewarded for sucking/failing, instead.

thats your imagination again
no one here wants to be rewarded for failing
they just want it fair only because you think its ok doesnt mean others have to agree with that ...

Actually I'd say you have no clue about how many players are leaving for any reason. None. Those numbers are not available to the public. Are there players who are leaving due to the death penalty, yes I'm sure there are, but the game doesn't have to cater to everyone. Clearly it is still attracting large numbers who inexplicably buy the MTX and supporter packs (I'm glad they do, but whatever). I think the 10% penalty is about right and works well. The only gripe I have is dying due to PoE server side and optimization errors but as far as usual gameplay keep the penalty as it is.

You misread the post, Chris is saying he gets 5 times more mail about the reduced penalty than about the penalty being too harsh.
But I would suspect that Chris is comparing two uncomparable frequencies. Of course people are going to complain a lot more right after a change than when the situation hasn't been moving for a while.

let alone the steam numbers talk i the dark number is much higher
now i see who has no clue :D

And I have yet to see you try to come up with a penalty that would fulfill your standards.
Because whatever suggestion I make, it feels to me that you will always disagree that it fulfills them.

For example, let's say, when your character dies, you get a cumulative 25% less XP for 40% of a level (making it effectively 10% of a level, like the current one), you will still dislike it, despite it not feeling as massive as the current one, and having less loopholes than when you don't get a penalty at 0%.

...why would he suggest a change when you're the one that wants it to be changed?
