What a patch...

So GGG just deployed one doozy of a patch. Not sure what they managed to screw up so royally, but a ton of skills aren't working anymore and many people can't enter any map without crashing on some characters, myself included.

GGG, I implore you. Slow down. I work in the software industry and I know what a release cadence like the one you have will do to you long term. Spin up two different teams so that they can do leagues separately and release them in turns. This way each will have 3 extra months to work on their release. If things keep going this way, the issues we've been having will be the new norm.

Also, I hope that whatever happened, it can be reverted and didn't cause any DB level corruption.

They said before that they're updating their engine bit by bit rather than doing one huge overhaul. I'm not surprised it's a total spaghettifest.

True. Sometimes I honestly ask myself why I even bother to support this game anymore, they fucked up every update recenty and legion, or rather this patch, is truly the pinnacle of their work the past few months, like just how much can you destroy with one singular update?

It's scary how often a patch gets released that breaks something so obvious that even 30 seconds in game would spot. An obvious one this time being Auras being removed when you zone in to a map.

I'd hope there was some sort of automated testing that checks things like this but clearly there isn't. Even if not automated a manual checklist that even if it takes an hour to do everything on it would prevent many of these issues. Every time a common crash bug is squashed it gets added to the automated/manual check list.

As a programmer myself I know how easy it is for a bug fix to have an unexpected side effect so running a full compliance test of any sort before release is paramount. I was once responsible for the largest software DVD release in Australia (back before downloading was common) and was threatened with them being delivered to me if there were any issues. Luckily had an excellent QA team that ran their own automated tests that discovered any bugs I accidentally added/left in and the 700,000 DVDs did not suddenly appear in my garden.

Day 1 and 2, I only made it to level 18 because I crashed so much.

Someone on Reddit suggested turn off Lockstep and use Predictive.

After turning on Predictive mode I leveled up to 66 with ZERO crashes.

After this patch, I tried switching back to Lockstep, and I crashed within a few minutes.

Switched back to Predictive and no crashes.

FYI: my internet is 400 Mbit fiber.



BUT...

Since the patch, every Legion encounter has ZERO special loot symbols over anyones head. The last 3 in a row I zoomed around and viewed the full extent of frozen legion mobs in every direction and NONE had a symbol over their head.


And yet GGG wants to pretend this is one of the best leagues because the servers themselves did not crash lol.

It's actually impressive just how widespread and diverse the problems are. Seems like they broke some very central code.

And yes, QA did drop the ball on this one quite bad.

how bad are we talking about that broke things? patching atm was looking forward to grind more today..

Well, my main this league is unplayable at the moment because the game just crashes when I enter any area.

Lots of ascendancy abilities aren't working.

Lots of icons and UI elements missing.

Some auras are bugged and keep turning off.

Some gem abilities aren't functioning right.

The list goes on

Enjoying Legion so far but after the patch I can't load into maps. I guess I'm done till they fix so I won't burn my maps I paid for
