" Whats the arguement again? I was side tracked by not giving a fuck. I'll get back at ya later i'm going to log in to the game now. OP reminds me of an eloquent DaleWinters. It's amusing but don't overdo it.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

Pretty sure the "PoRN" in the title was a dead giveaway that this wasn't a serious whine thread.

" Do you know what makes me a troll, what lead you to call me a troll, and if there was any reason at all? This could be a problem with semantics. Your definition of troll is personal and esoteric. Whilst the concept of random numbers being generated to determine outcomes are a fundamental game mechanic in the genre of Action Role Playing Games (ARPG); it is inevitable that some player will experience an unfortunate string of numbers and be aligned to complain about flaws in said system. These player based complaints stem from frustration about a particular game mechanic, but the underlying issue is that the player fails to understand the concept of random numbers and is unjustifiably unqualified in expressing their opinion on how to go about rectifying a random number based mechanic.
Random Number Generators (RNG) purpose in ARPGs is to inflate game longevity in whatever aspect that system is installed. For instance, a favourable outcome when rolling 6 Linked items (6L) is considered by some a pinnacle achievement in a particular example of an ARPG, namely Path of Exile (Charan, 2013). This achievement is compounded by the rarity of the event and when this event occurs for said lucky individual, bouts of serotonin are released from the body and said individual experiences pleasure (tpapp157, 2013, p. 1). It can be observed that delicately timed releases of reward at random intervals is more satisfying to the individual than fixed placed rewards, given the same amount of reward over a given timeframe. For example, B.F Skinner conducted a study was conducted on mice where a lever was pressed that was attached to a machine to deliver food. It was observed that the mice would repeatedly keep pressing the lever until he was sated. Wittgenstein (2013)* extended this observation by noticing that during one of Skinner's experiments that he had a shortage of food one day. He calibrated the instrument that the food would be delivered on every 10th press of the lever. It can be determined that the mice had to press the lever 10 times as much in order to receive the same amount of food compared to previously. Wittgenstein* founded a philosophy and ended up grouping the reward delivery system into two different groups, namely "fixed ratio rewards" and "variable ratio rewards". In general, a fixed ratio reward will always be determined and known to the player. For example, 100 coins in Mario would net one life; pressing the Konami Code once would make the player become a god (although it is unknown as to the effects as to what would happen if the Konami Code was entered more than once). Variable ratio rewards are determined by a random number of trials, but can be determined as an average if presented with enough trials. For example, it may take 50 kills to obtain a Stone of Jordan (SOJ) in Diablo 2 (D2), or it may take 46 671.33 (repeating of course) kills. The difference in the amount of kills is called variance. It is observed that games that adopt variable ratio rewards have a higher activity (amount of play) than those games who solely adopt a fixed ratio reward. IExiledOtherExilesToBeTheExile argues that variance can be a bitch and has presented his findings mentioned below: " This observation is a textbook example of what is deemed a game that has adopted a variable ratio reward system. IExiledOtherExilesToBeTheExile contends that random numbers are random, but fails to understand the concept of variance and to systematically approach it in his/her/it findings. The definition of variance states that by obtaining all possible outcomes from a particular event, it is the average of the squared differences from the mean value. This value can be further refined by applying the square root of the variance in order to obtain the standard deviation. The paper mentioned above lacks these aforementioned observations and is therefore academically unsound. In conclusion. variance and random numbers are examples of why uneducated people cannot grasp the concept of the word "random". It is determined that random number generators are a bitch as put forward by IExiledOtherExilesToBeTheExile and then later refuted for lack of credibility. Therefore, by understanding the underlying mechanics of random numbers, this paper favours random numbers as a source of spiritual enjoyment for players and an eyesore to those who couldn't be fucked (cbf) reading this material. * Wittgenstein is actually a clone of Hopson (2001) {to maintain integrity} |
