Why do people play leagues over standard?

well i am pretty much in your shoes the last leagues whihc i played were Incursion and Legacy every other "recent" league i skipped... in in the current game i dont see the point ( for me ) that i go to league

you ask why?

- i hate lvling
- i hate the current atlas mechanic and dont wanna struggle again with t1-11 maps when i can jumo to t16 maps
- atm we have content of 5-6 legaues in the game ( 4x different master ( zana i dont rly count to new content / harbinger / abyss+breach ) so in theory you have 7 league on all the time ... in praxis i have atleast 1 master every 2-3 maps // i have abyss or breach every few maps and i have beyond or harbinger every map... and than dont forget the 4 sextants per map...
- one more content is not worth it for me
- and the new crafting system is great, but even now i still havent seen every crafting mod ( found ones hits cant be evaded / frenzy on crit never and so on ) and i odnt wanna do that every 3 month looool

- what do i miss is the fresh start since i can gain easily half a mirror in a fresh league when i am unlucky and ~2 mirror when iam lucky

--> conclusion conc are much higher then the pros for me and i do whatever i want in standart with all the gear which i stacked up since nemesis league

Is that a serious question? It's like asking if water is wet.

You might wish to look up the meaning of the words "why" and "if".

Not really. Lets go over this since you need it broken down. Asking if water is wet would be a stupid question. So is this. The answer to if water is wet is obvious. So is the answer to this one.

K?

- New content?

- Fresh economy (as in; you're able to sell a lot of items, not just GG items - at least early on)

- More players - and all the benefits that comes with them

- Challenges (some people are into that)

- New balances, new skills, new items, new stuff to hunt.

It can be easier to make bank in leagues than it is in standard, if "making currency" is your goal.

new balances and skills come always to standard as well. Not only to leagues.

I work 5 days a week a s I find it a bit difficult to make enough exalts in an already established level 90 character in Standard let alone starting a new league every 13 weeks to be able to do top tier maps and runs.

I heard league the items are a lot cheaper but this has never ever been the case for me.

I can't have fun in leagues so what am I missing?
well u can play 3h per da and 6-7h during weekends for the first 1-2 weeks of ligue start and get 25-50+ exalts for your main char on standart. Especially true for hardcore.
Greetings,

Good points here and bad points.

I did a little bit of research to see if it corresponds to my past experience and I think I am in the ballpark for non hardcore non SSF players:

For an average player who played the game for more than 18 months. The upper 20% of those players:

- It takes an average of 10-14 hours of gaming to reach the Atlas.
- It takes an average of additional 12-18 hours of gaming to reach T10 maps.
- It takes an average of additional 40-60 hours of gaming to reach T16 maps.

At that point you should have 12-16 challenges completed with the leagues (Except Synthesis, that league is harder to complete challenges.)
If you reach that point, you are also way over an average player.
At that time also, 80% of the players stop playing, run out of time OR start a new character.

Thank you
P.S.: according to Steam 2018:
- around 5% of players will reach and play maps in any mode.
- less than 1% of players will reach red maps in any mode.
P.P.S.: I read a stat but it was not substantiated by any source. It said that only 1/100,000 opened the Shaper map. Personally, I had multiple characters able to kill him. I opened his map once, tried him and never tried again. I have more fun spending my time Delving.
When you already have everything - I have like two of everything at least - what's the point? The game is about the hunt not having the stuff. We usually quit once a toon is GG. So the league gives new opportunity at acquisition.

Also fresh mechanics. Only so many times you can play same game. The leagues offer new content and items.

Finally those who like to compete whether it be SSFHC to 100 or 40 challenges or whatever league is only place you can since we dont have racing anymore.

Standard is fine of you're casual though. I play it sometimes when I'm really busy and just want to goof off a couple hours when I have some free time. Or if I sit out a league mechanic because it sucks like this one.

Even the flashback didnt help it with the good old league mechanics because the super lame synthesis was still there. It even made Synthesis look worse juxtaposed to good leagues!!!

you can play leagues as most casual EASILY and still reach somewhat decent goals.

synthesis was awful enough, while it was my first league I already found several better leagues on the past.

it depends on what are you goals, be realistic about them depending the time you're willing to give to the game in general.

8 weeks, in like 2-3 weeks anyone could reach somewhat decent goals.. unless you're going for the chore's # that would be another story.. not my case.

standard? everything might be overexpensive because the veterans players have currency overload from past leagues..

Leagues is dogshit and I only play them to rip gear from hc to std.

Fresh economy is also a joke, 1 month into the league and an ex is worth 170 chaos, more than in std.

Yea game is fresh when you play Day 1, not sleep for the next 4 days and sell maps to scrubs to bank and fund your character that will be put in trash once you quit after a month .

League concept is a scam loved by streamers just because of the ladder race.

I started playing at the start of May: check my trickster character. I think I did quite fine gearing even with my laste blooomer phase.

Synthesis is awful indeed. And Betrayal had and still has flaws. For me, the most frustrating part of betrayal is intervention one-shot or two-shot kills. Now I can survive but I know many casual players cannot still, even if we are at the end of the league.

Moreover, we have to acknowledge that Delve was an extraordinary good league and it is a kind-of-a-league that happens once every 2 years.

The previews of Legion league are hinting that it may be as fun as breach league.
