Why do people play leagues over standard?
|
The main reason i play leagues is because they fucked me over so bad in standard with nerfs and shit and generally just making standard play long term goals feel like a hamster wheel for the mentally insane.
For example. i saved up for 2 years to get over 100 exhalts for a mjolner back in the day. I cant remember the exact price it may even have been 120 exhalts. So there i was for 1 week happily playing mjolner discharge and bam. 120 exhalts to 5 chaos overnight. I had a choice then. Quit for good or play leagues. I decided to play leagues, biding my time for another game to come along. Unfotunately it hasnt yet so im still here. |

" I do agree on the patching. However, POE does not have PTR like D3 made by that low-life company. I do accept a fix schedule of new and potential fun stuff and I do accept a league that may need tweaks at the beginning. D3 and POE designers relationship with the players is day and night. I want GGG to try stuff. I have no problem to have crappy leagues like Synthesis because I know that a)GGG communications are good with its community and b)GGG learn from its mistakes and the product improves. I played D3 and as long as it is the same team over there, I will never play one of their product. |

I play leagues because everyone is kinda equal at the start. Everyone starts fresh, even though the most seasoned players run the olympic rings around the bottom tier players, where I comfortly consider myself to be. Just dipping my toes in, not daring to plunge in all the way.
But, most importantly, because for the month and a half, maybe two that a league usually holds my attention, I'm having fun. More fun han I'm having in WoW, D3, Grim Dawn or whatever other game I normally dabble in. I just wanna kill stuff and make the screen go bright with all the colours of the rainbow. Legion sounds right up my alley ;) Filthy casual PoE player. Still don't understand half the mechanics even after 3 years of playing in the different leagues ;)

I play the leagues because SC is a hot mess. Until they give us some abilities, or third party utilities, to manage our stashes I'm just going to ignore the existence of standard.
Leagues let me try out the new content, skills, ect. But, unfortunately, too many just see leagues as a way to rake in currency. They care not a whit for the new content, most won't even touch it. Considering how *horrible* the drops are, for the most part, and the time wasted sorting through them for useful stuff, we need those mindless farmers. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |

" You're pretty bad at this game then I guess cause I spend very little time in my hideout and usually get to shaper/elder if not uber. |

I used to only play Standard. I didn't get why people would want to restart from scratch every 3 months. It seemed like everything was pointless.
Then I played Abyss League. I saw the freshness of new content. I saw how rewarding the Challenges were. I fell in love with the quest for the free MTXs from aforementioned Challenges. I began to enjoy the fresh new economy. I loved that I didn't have to worry about what item versions were "current" since everything in a league simply is. Finally, I began to enjoy the excitement surrounding a new launch. Nobody knows what builds are the best. Old builds are made new. It's like a whole new frontier of the game. I now ONLY play leagues. |

Ignore the toxic community. As people mentioned, used to play Standard to learn the game.
Following which, I started my first league and never looked back since. I'm a casual player who even missed out synthesis league. Came back just last week to prepare for legion which I'm going to start. No problems doing red maps and making currency. Leagues have new and fresh mechanics, and first week you really really get to trade things you normally won't glance at in standard. Not to say the global chat, while albeit toxic at times, is still a joy to interact with players. I am by no means a racer or a hardcore player. I play 3-4 builds only but I find great joy and making currency, upgrading equipments from 4 to 6 links, taking down bosses and going further in game content each league I play. First league I played was double dip flameblast elementalist that didn't even reach lvl 90. I died so many times at Lvl 85-89 that I gave up despite having some decent gear. Second league I went easy and tested a consistent performer in ngamahu cyclone. Achieved lvl 90 first time but I didn't know how to make good income so I didn't gear enough to take down minotaur. Third league I went to do some homework on what makes a good stat/build, finally took down shaper and atziri. Even till now, my 6th character (5th league), I've yet to attempt uber elder cause that game content is way above my commitment but who says you can't play the game? Found my first mirror shard in the flashback race just 2 days ago. Got my 1st 6L starforge at decent rolls, and lvl 21 gems. I still have 5 days to push myself. |
