Just for science, this works for skills and even content. Ask yourself, if they divided winter orb damage by fifteen(around 600k dps with multi ex gear) would you still use it? If the answer is no, you don't love it, you love power. The same can be said for delve, if they reduced delve rewards to be the same as incursions for example, would you still have the urge to run it forever? If the answer is no, you love rewards not delve.
That's where you're wrong, WO would still be the the most satisfying skill in the game next to pre nerf kinetic blast even if its base damage was divided by 15.
So you pass the test, you really like the skill! I like blade vortex too( the inferior cousin of WO), and it's still a really strong skill even after being nerfed each patch since it's release (it's still a pretty broken skill damage wise).
And it's good that you agree that it's damage can be reduced by such major values without it losing it's appeal.

Here is my thoughts after playing WO in Flashback. I have played pretty much all the meta builds the past few years. I like the shatters - it is visually pleasing and I like being able to loot while still doing damage. I am a fan and I suspect that this is why 33% of the Synthesis builds were WO - probably should have been 50%.
The old Shimmeron Arc traps was probably a touch stronger and a better boss killer, but this plays much smoother.
So, to answer the OP - the mild dislike of Synthesis would have been a complete disaster without WO and the reworked chaos spells. So, I say thank goodness these spells were in the game.

Is Winter Orb really any worse than totem builds?
People keep making this huge deal about Winter Orb being a Totally Automated Self-Playing Supahbuild that breaks the game, but yeebus - we've been able to make builds that do damage while you move around dodging for forever. Warchief totems is still one of the easiest league starters in the game. I get that Winter Orb can be specced to do a gobschyte of damage, but so can everything else. Hell, Cold Multi-DOT Occultist does over a million DPS in fifty-chaos budget gear and a 5L - I know, I did it it in Betrayal - and it can run around and avoid stuff while pumping the deepz too.
Seriously. Is it just the Blade Vortex-y moving-stacks thing that bothers people? because everybody said this shit about Blade Vortex too, back in the day.
I like Hierophant totems way more.

I seriously hope they address targeting. That's why skills like totems, winter orb, Impulsa builds, mines... have been so popular. The common feature is that they kill without targeting.
It really isn't, totems target like a player, inpulsa is proximity damage that scales a single target skill excessively, mines target like a player.
the only thing that operates like WO is mirage archer, which has similar problems with how busted it is and is a major part of the lvl 30 whatever uber elder etc.
i remember when i needed to disable mirage archer cause it would shoot the reflect version of atziri.
how do you do that with winter orb?
Just go diametrally opposite to the reflect clone and avoid the first flameblast. Didn't try uber but the principle is the same, albeit with more dancing around.

I don't think winter orb is that broken. A good spectre or zombie build is very similar to it (a bit more "stupid" maybe).

last time i played spectremancer in bestiary but something change since than ?
if no, than i cant agree with you, because spectres stuck alot and bug behind walls. winter orb just wait to autoaim closest thing that can be damaged. its superior for closed maps and the same if not better in open than spectremancer

Nope. People would just go elementalist and be immune to reflect. Problem not solved

Do any of the haters even realize that if you want to get Winter Orb to the point of ''melting bosses'' and being ''OP'' you actually have to dump like 1-2 mirrors worth of currency into the build. Without the heavy investment its a pretty low damage skill tbh , I guess you could complain about the aiming aspect but basically any skill you need to ''aim'' is actually just slightly pointing Ur mouse in a certain direction and...that's about it. The best option here is to instead of nerfing the current popular skills is to make the older non viable skills great again , otherwise it's just a cycle of nerf-buff-nerf-buff..
Ehhh not true. I play elementalist, the most squishy of all of the winter orbers and I rip through guardians/shaper easier than I did with any other character I have tried sofar(including trapper/miner), maybe except prenerf gc-mines with double stat stick. I am nowhere close to mirrorworthy gear in fact I am mostly self found. On top of that it is safer than any of those as I can move around all the time and avoid all damage in the process.
