how the fuck did a skill like winter orb enter this game?

Winter Orb is the result of PoE on consoles. Precise aiming with a game controller is awkward so auto-aiming is needed.

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

We can play any skill we desire but WO is such an AFK skill that you can blow through all content with practically in your sleep that is makes playing any other skill feel bad (why the hell do I have to work so hard with xyz skill to clear the zones/maps). GGG should never have allowed this kind of skill to ever exist. Shame on you GGG.

Is Winter Orb really any worse than totem builds?

Depends what point in the balance spectrum you are comparing it to, originally totems offered safety in return for speed - as buffs progressed totems just became a straight upgrade on selfcast and you cleared faster and still enjoyed the additional safety.

Is WO worse? In terms of safety its very similar you have two skills that fall under the criteria of occasional cast and lots of time available to dodge.

In damage terms totems almost certainly win out for single target just due to the number of them you can have.

In clear WO wins out because you clear multiple screens per cast window.

End result is depends on your criteria but for a majority of PoE players #3 is literally all that matters to them so for most i'd argue that WO is superior to totems.

Must I point out that it's YOU that feels bad... and not the skill?
If you are not a racer what do you care?
Lol people thinks totem is similar to worb? The only totem that is kinda like worb is vaal ancestral warchief, which is a vaal skill that can't be spammed easily. Yeah during a boss fight they are both automated but in terms of running map or delving worb lets you pre cast and stack worb then you just phase run zoom zoom worb kills everything for you automatically. At least blade vertex needs to be in melee. Worb doesn't have that drawback. It's the single most broken skill in PoE in the longest time. Even Arc or blade vortex pre nerf doesn't touch winter orb in its current state.
I don't make build around it, because I'm 100% sure will be nerfed a lot. If not I will give it a try.
I seriously hope they address targeting. That's why skills like totems, winter orb, Impulsa builds, mines... have been so popular. The common feature is that they kill without targeting. Having to position your mouse just so in order to kill something should come with some tangible reward for having done so, and skills that don't require it should need some investment in order to become viable.

It's not Winter Orb's fault... that's just the current favorite.

Fix targeting.

they just have to reintroduce reflect to have some downside to auto targeting (again).

age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
