Path of Exile: The one and only Diablo 3.

edit: Darn it, Flytheelephant was way faster. One shouldn't bake a cake when posting. But Matt Uelmen has long since joined Runic Games (and is responsible for the Torchlight soundtrack).

Your's was more thourough and contained info not in the Wiki.

Just reading something directly from wikipedia adds nothing to the arguement, you might as well have just linked me the page. (Same thing to flythetrollephant)

If he posted a link to a learning and info site, clearly you would never have clicked it out of fear that you may be enlightened with the truth rather than your own beliefs. Also only lazy people put links in forums. (also people who don't care about checking the validity of said information or reading it themselves.)

Erm. You deciding I got that information from wikipedia adds nothing but the fact that apparently you have noting more productive to add?

By the by: A few numbers are in fact from wikipedia (simply because I couldn't remember the exact numbers of people leaving). Most of it, however, I know because I used to be an editor for a newsmag about pc gaming for some time.

Which newsmagazine might that be? But yeah, as I said, it doesn't mean anything for the development of D3 really.
(Not to mension that those team members who left pretty much all went off to make huge flops or mediocre diablo clones)

Why don't you split Manchester United into 5 teams and see if they produce anything special.

That's a ridiculously poor arguement really, considering adding a solid player to a team strengthens the team as a whole by a lot... My point is though, that the people who actually had the good ideas apparently stayed.
Otherwise the ones who left wouldn't have produced all those half-assed clones and other abominations.

I can't wait to play D3 and TL2 and Grim Dawn (if that ever comes out) and PoE...

Diablo 3 looks like an awesome game, I am in the beta and have played it to death. I don't think it will have the staying power that D2 had (since you no longer need to re-roll) but I do think it will be a blast to play through. I am not a fan of the $ AH, so I'll not participate in it.

I think PoE has the potential to be a much better game, but there are still a lot of missing components (last class/act 3/voice acting/plot development.. etc) that I'll need to see before I can make claims about which game is better. Certainly their is a part of me that just wants to see this small studio beat Blizzard at their own game (literally) but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. As the consumer, I choose who wins.

Personally, as a fan of the genre I am just happy to be here watching all of these great new games come out. My biggest fear is that we'll have a repeat of Darkspore, a game I was excited about, and had a lot of good ideas but ultimately failed to deliver.

End of Blizzard North

Delays and problems ensued, the "Big Four" (Bill Roper, plus the three company founders; David Brevik, Max Schaefer, and Erich Schaefer.) left in early 2003 to form Flagship Studios, and Blizzard North ultimately closed in summer 2005, without ever announcing, much less releasing, another game.

Almost all the remaining employees of Blizzard North were offered contracts at Blizzard Irvine, and while some took those jobs, most quit and looked for work at other game developers in the Bay Area.

D3 Bashers sounds like spoiled kids who wanted an extension of Diablo 2, thats not gonna happen, deal with it and play PoE, Torchlight or any ARPG that suits you.

You know me perfectly, except i played D2 for years, when it came out in 1997 which makes you the kid, and me spoiled by good games that were made in the 90s, unlike caawa-dooty: Same models and textures as last 2 games. No Torchlight was a heap of shit, dont push that on anyone.
Go back to caawa-dooty and Torchlight leave us spoiled adult kids to play XCOM: UFO Defence, Diablo 2, and Fallout 2 (yep the isometric one, yes the good one, no not the new heap of junk).

I played my first Blizzard game wich was Warcraft Orcs and Humans way before they made Diablo so STFU, I also played D2 for years and I even still play it.

Will I play a D2 remake ? Maybe but so far I am happy with the original.

The market is evolving you have also to evolve or stick with your old games, I know we wont see any Planescape Torment for example and that makes me sad that doesn't mean all modern games are crap.

And as a spoiled adult you really sound childish whining that D3 doesnt meet your standards, just stop whining and find a game that does or stick to D2.

Believe me as much as I do like PoE it is aimed as a niche market, a lot of players will be discouraged by its difficulty (knowing what orb worth what is already someting to learn really), it doesnt mean the game is bad just that only hardcore gamers will enjoy it.

Who are you to dictate what a company should do to make profit nowadays ? Everybody is spitting on Blizzard because they make games that sells well, what a shame really...

I do hope that PoE meet the success it desserve but I'd also like ppl to talk about it and not about D3 or D2 wich makes only more free advertising for Blizzard by the way.

Spread the word about PoE if you do like it and if you want to bash D3 just go on D3 forums or any D3 dedicated website and leave the PoE players talk about PoE....

Good post, though I think you and others gravely overestimate the replayability through rerolling.
Realistically it only costs about 5 hours to get a character at a level where it can wear all it's endgame gear. Sure, if you make a lot of alts that sort of adds up, but it's not any kind of significant number when compared to the total time you played d2.

As for darkspore.. sorry to put it this way, but that was perhaps the biggest steaming pile of shit I have seen in my life. It took the meaning of the word casual to a whole new level, to where even actual casual players didn't even enjoy it.
