Blizzard north left and formed Flagship Studios. Made Hellgate: London which was great until the big 2008 crash happened. Now Koreans own it.

RIP Blizzard north, you made me addicted to your greatness when I was a teenager.

Correction: A few people from blizzard north left.
Hellgate london was a piece of crap, and the current version is perhaps even more crap.

Amazing how people committed enough to facts to track particular individuals and their career paths can still resort to hyperbolic nonsense like "call of duty made diablo 3".

That is really sad... I think we forget about our expectations. PoE will like ppl who want to have D2 experience, and to have some modern/gameplay innovations/improvements along the way. As for D3 I think it is for ppl who want something really new, that gives you different feeling than D1,D2, D2lod. It is just different kind of games.
IGN: Infernalle
guys lets stop this bickering, the way i see it, each to there own, everyone has their opinion as which is best, if you like D3 good if you like POE good too or if you like both then play both, end of story. i have played both and both have their merits and not so good points. every game has taken bits and pieces from various games so nothing new there. so just enjoy as at the end of the day we are playing to enjoy ourselves and have some fun.
so endith the sermon. have fun guys lifes to short
I like them both :)
Again ....

D3 Bashers sounds like spoiled kids who wanted an extension of Diablo 2, thats not gonna happen, deal with it and play PoE, Torchlight or any ARPG that suits you.

Not only bashing a game thats not out yet, that you didnt played and comparing it to an early CB is stupid and childish but it also lead nowhere.

Would it be more constructive to talk about what they could improve in PoE ? Or will we see one thread by day bashing another game ?

You dont like D3 ? Fine but frankly who cares ?

I could also pooint what sucked in D2 and you may have forgotten that so many things that you point as missing in D3 from D2 were implemented after the first extension (in D2 you dont have freakin rune words in LOD you do).

Can we just please stop talking about D3 on PoE forums ? It may be the one and only thing that could drive me away from this game ...

You know me perfectly, except i played D2 for years, when it came out in 1997 which makes you the kid, and me spoiled by good games that were made in the 90s, unlike caawa-dooty: Same models and textures as last 2 games. No Torchlight was a heap of shit, dont push that on anyone.
Go back to caawa-dooty and Torchlight leave us spoiled adult kids to play XCOM: UFO Defence, Diablo 2, and Fallout 2 (yep the isometric one, yes the good one, no not the new heap of junk).

1. Diablo 3 was in the development long before Darkspore

Diablo 3 was scrapped in 2005, most likely abandoned due to the success of WoW. The game you see now has not been for long. Darkspore began development in 2008, Blizzards "New D3" was claimed to be started in 2008.

Correction: A few people from blizzard north left.

From a team of around 40, 8 left for flagship studios, 9 moved to castaway entertainment and according to wikipedia (not a real source I know) 30 in total left. Then Vivendi canceled D3. After that in August 2005 Blizzard closed B. North because nobody except for the slaves were left. Joseph Lawrence, Wyatt Cheng and Matt Uelmen are the only staff from B. North left. Phroilan Gardner one of the B. North artists went on to do art on the World of Warcraft trading card game as punishment for his involvement in the greatest ARPG ever made.

Prior to Blizzard North being shut down, eight people left to found Flagship Studios. Nine more left to found Castaway Entertainment. All in all, about 30 people left in 2003.

In 2005, then, Blizzard North was shut down presumably because Diablo III didn't rise to Vivendi's expectations. Some went on to join other branches of Blizzard, others founded Hyboreal games.

A few of those "old" Blizzard North members then left to found Runic Games together with people from Flagship Studios (of which some were Diablo veterans, like Max Schaefer and Peter Hu).

All in all, there are next to no "original" crew members left at Blizzard.
Which more or less means that Diablo III is developed by a completely different team than the former titles.

edit: Darn it, Flytheelephant was way faster. One shouldn't bake a cake when posting. But Matt Uelmen has long since joined Runic Games (and is responsible for the Torchlight soundtrack).

Just reading something directly from wikipedia adds nothing to the arguement, you might as well have just linked me the page. (Same thing to flythetrollephant)
I'll assume this is the truth though.
That said, it doesn't make HGL any less of a horrible game.

Erm. You deciding I got that information from wikipedia adds nothing but the fact that apparently you have noting more productive to add?

By the by: A few numbers are in fact from wikipedia (simply because I couldn't remember the exact numbers of people leaving). Most of it, however, I know because I used to be an editor for a newsmag about pc gaming for some time.
