Pre 4.0 hype disappointment

The way Chris speaks about 4.0 makes me think we're going to get a MMO with AH and mounts.

i think you have your head where the sun don't shine if you took away that from anything GGG has said about 4.0

He who controls the pants controls the galaxy. - Rick & Morty S3E1
4.0 disappointments not even going to be a thing cause most people will have put the game down for good by then. There's only so much coming back a man can do ya know.

Charan had a much better response on Diablo 3 but, here's mine.

Diablo 3 was a great game. There was nothing to "hate" in D3, which seemed to be their primary design goal. Maybe I'll even play it again someday?

I hope 4.0 is not a disappointment, I don't expect it to be a disappointment?

Nothing to hate? Buddy, D3 has zero continuity with its ground breaking predecessors. It should have been called Wowablo 1: South Forever

What I was talking about was their apparent design center being doing away with all irritating things that people might hate in D2. I agree with your overall assessment though. For example, when I first ran D3 I played it for about 15 or 20 minutes and was very disappointed by the cartoonish characters and environments. I dropped the game at that point.

Years later I picked up D3 again and after plowing through and getting over the cartoonish graphic environment actually enjoyed the game for a few months. Very smooth game play with nothing to hate is how I described it. The problem is that there is not that much there to love. Charan did a much better job describing what I mean earlier in this thread than I could. here's a link to it

edit: Another way I'd describe D3 is that it was SUPER smooth and SUPER polished.
Over 430 threads discussing labyrinth problems with over 1040 posters in support (thread # 1702621) Thank you all! GGG will implement a different method for ascension in PoE2. Retired!

The state of poe players in 2019

He speaks from a true racer junkie perspective. The role playing aspect is not of much/any importance, just let me race through all zones/maps to get my build to 100. Role playing, strategy, great content... who needs that. Let me suck up all currency orbs (like azurite in delving) so I can blitzkrieg this map and get to the next one.

Maybe, but it's still a good suggestion. Aren't you tired of picking up all this shit every league? I always end up with 2000 alts and 700 augs I never end up needing, yet I might need them for crafting something for my build so I have to pick them up. I think half my time in this game is just picking shit up and portaling back to town to identify junk when really all I care about is advancing my build and getting to see the endgame of the league content.

People were going back to PoE in last 6 years. I doubt next ~12 months will change anything.

People were going back to PoE in last 6 years. I doubt next ~12 months will change anything.

There is only one small difference. During the first 4 years after the appearance of the game, 13 "leagues" appeared, of which only 2 were referred to as "catastrophic", in addition, even these "catastrophic" were much better prepared and devoid of bugs than all the current leagues. Over the last two years, 9 new leagues have appeared and most of them were much more complicated than anything that appeared before "Breach".

In addition, every mechanic from the previous 9 leagues, except for the "legacy league " has been included in the "core game", often before eliminating all bugs associated with the league. As a result, you now have a product with a number of bugs that even surpasses Bethesda's achievements in that matter, in combination with the optimization so tragic that it is able to fry any computer.

And only in single player mode. Only the most powerful computers dedicated to the most demanding games from 2018 or 2019 can afford to play in the group. I have such a computer, so I could even afford "selling services" like Shaper or Uber Elder killing, but my friend, with computer quite capable for Witcher 3 on high details overheats and turns off or freezes during any group game in PoE. This is no simply “bad optimization”. This is tragedy.

To recapitulate, there is 3 "new" leagues and one “legacy sort” – 3.7 to 4.0. It means even more content, including horrible one, like shitthesis, even more bugs and worse optimization, before “big 4.0”, which will bring another portion of bugs and bloat.

So it's enough that they will do next leagues according to the 3-month plan, so that 4.0 will be a great debacle.

Doesnt matter how bad Synthesis is. People will go back to next one anyway.

Wrong. People hated Diablo 3 becuause it wasnt "better Diablo 2".

Wrong people hated D3 because people will always hate something. In counterpoint people loved D3 that didnt like or experience D2

Way too early to tell. But one thing is for sure, Speed Racer/Shooter PoE looks to be here to stay forever. Chris made that plainly clear in his GDC presentation. GGG is after maximum player counts to have maximum mtx sales and thus we make PoE into a shooter/racer style game to get millions of twitch game junkies to play. Then we keep them hooked by way of the race reset every 13 weeks. It won't matter what the league mechanic is as much as the ladder and economy reset so the game junkies can race to 100 again (they will play whatever the meta builds are for that league).

What a terrible way to see our once beloved ARPG go. Strategy and role playing is out. The smash and dash race to 100 is all the matters. As long as TencentGGG can see that the player numbers are there then that's all good for them.

Goodbye old PoE, we will always miss you, sniff.  :(

I'm not a racer at all, and I'd sell my soul for auto loot on currency / scrolls at the very least, a customizable "Auto Loot this" interface at best.

On a Swedish gaming site, they asked gamers to list their most dissapointing game. Diablo 3 was the most common title that got mentioned.
There are people out there that like the Star Wars prequels over the originals, The Hobbit movies over Lord of the Rings and yeah D3 over D2.
Still if so many of the old fans got turned off and didn't like em, there clearly was something wrong. Not just because people "want to hate something".
I mean PoE got really big thanks to how D3 failed to please many of its fans.
