Pre 4.0 hype disappointment

It’s little bit more complicated. Probably at the very beginning the developer was afraid that if something is "easy to achieve", then players will achieve this relatively quickly, then will say "checked" and will go to other games. At first they solved this problem in such a way that it took several minutes to kill one opponent.

Later it did not work anymore, because with the addition of another content, the opponents had to die faster so that the players would not leave before they reached this wonderful "new content". Even later, players were slowed down by overlapping layers of RNG. In the meantime, a clever "meta rotation" was taking place, so that players would not get used to one build that "can do everything".

And then everything smoothly fell apart, because the whole has become so complicated that it can not be understood without many years of practice, and the disproportion between the "new" players and "streamers and no-lifers" has become so enormous, streamers and no-lifers, regardless of changes made by the developer "win the game" in a few days (and then bored), while "new players or casuals" quitting with rage, because they do not know what's going on.

All this is combined with the whole bugs package, including several game breaking, which build up with each new addition. and the developers' conviction about their genius and that "old, proven methods" will work forever, no matter what happens. I can only see one association here. Titanic. Chris Wilson is apparently still celebrating while the iceberg is waiting. After publishing 4.0, we will hear the great BAAAAM.

I just can't understand why GGG won't allow player agency and allow players to decide what content they want to engage in. Why is that so bad from GGG's point of view? I know if I could delve non-stop I would be still playing PoE right now.

It would require A LOT of work, especially when it comes to balance, because they would have to rework the entire mine. As of now, the mine and its rewards are balanced around sulphite and limited access.

If you would be OK with Delving if they'd had to nerf density, XP, loot and rewards - good for you. But I'm very sure that a lot of people like delving because of those factors.

You DO understand. You just disagree.

Edit: I do agree with you, though. But I do understand their decision. I would love for them to NOT be hellbent on using the Atlas as a hub for everything.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Um. I think I understand what GGG is doing. But I really don't understand why they think their way is better than say how D2 worked as an ARPG.

D2?

What else could you do in D2, besides playing the "main" game? Endless Baal runs? Or the Uber-areas, which, in my memory, required you to play the main game? I'm not sure I follow the comparison here.

I loved it too. But I don't see how it's an example worth mentioning on the subject we were debating.

I don't understand why GGG thinks their RNG-heavily-focused ARPG is better than an ARPG where content isn't gated heavily behind RNG. And where drop-rates increase proportional to the difficulty of the content. That's why I brought up d2 as an example of.

Autoloot for items? That's all you care about?

I started the post by saying my high hopes were about poe turning into a MMO with mounts and a AH, and if that first place wish wouldn't come true (which it obviously is not going to), then the second place for me would be a minimum of getting autoloot, to keep me playing at all.
All other content related additions or changes would be okay/whatever to me.

I hardly ever get half way done with the Atlas in any league, I'm not a end gamer, so yeah autoloot is a huge thing for me.

Mounts...really? I'm going to assume you're joking.

Just leaving this here way ahead so I can come back later and say told you so......

That is a great idea! Let me tell you what my crystal ball says too:

PoE 4.0
01.) melee still sucks compared to ranged
02.) either ES or life is by far better than the other option
03.) damage is still the best defence
04.) still no auction house or any other ig trading system
05.) still no fixed vendor currency exchange rates
06.) bosses' skills still either do no damage or oneshoot you
07.) block still useless for every other class than guardian
08.) needed micromanagement still growing
09.) still no real endless dungeon or other alternative endgame
10.) and of course no new engine
11.) and of course no mounts
12.) about 12 billion new MTXs

There will be no big change! There will be a few new mechanics and they will create the biggest hype ever but in the end pretty sure than nothing really important will change. But we have genger choices now, praise the lord. Therefore the game feels completely enhanced now, right?
