Another topic is automation. While we work hard to stamp out bots and abusive behaviour, it would be hard to completely eliminate the damage caused by a few trade bots with access to a fast trade system. If they have the ability to search out and buy items without having to talk to another player, then there would be some very large-scale economic consequences that would not be good for regular players.

I didn't say 'fluently'. Pidgin English is virtually impossible to be fluent in because it's broken by nature, and never found itself as a coherent whole. You're still using the numerals as a form of language, so you're still wrong when you say you don't need to 'speak' the same language, but that's nitpicking at best. And I am still not sure how it would go were you to try to switch currency types -- you're describing an incredibly simplified example in one currency.

So fair enough. I'm glad you made it work for you. As I said, I've seen too many examples of failed haggling (even when they DO speak the same language -- or maybe that increases the risk because then you can insult each other fluently :P) due to language barrier to think your case is the norm.

As I noted earlier, I used to love trading in EQ (and DAoC, for that matter) as a personal interaction, but I just find it reprehensibly tiresome with PoE. When I do engage in it, I click buyout only, online only, and treat the whole experience like a straight-up purchase. No interaction beyond emoticons and very, very basic English unless the other person starts a conversation. It's efficient enough but since it's just simulating amazon, for me it might as well be an in-game marketplace.

But if there's some massive culture of haggling and bargaining going on under the rankled skin of what appears to be widespread discontent with the current trade system, then fine, what we currently have is close to the best for that. Much more automation and you'll lose that. If.
