Melee Weapon Range - need explanation

I need some more clarifications on Melee Weapon Range.

I have read that Melee Weapon Range from Master of the Arena Notable does not apply to Sweep Cleave and Ground Slam - i.e. most used AoE Melee Skills. link

What I can't find anywhere is:
When does this passive is taken into account?
On what skills does it apply?

Since I don't know when it does apply I cannot use it at all!

Skills list:
Spoiler
Cleave - doesn't apply
Domination Blow
Glacial Hammer
Ground Slam - doesn't apply
Leap Slam
Heavy Strike
Infernal Blow
Lightning Strike
Sweep - doesn't apply

Double Strike
Dual Strike
Puncture
Viper Strike
Whirling Blades

I would like some clarifications from Mark_GGG.
Would be much appreciated.

Thank you

On all melee single-target skills (including lightning strike's main hit)
On cyclone.
Maybe whirling blades?

Domination Blow
Glacial Hammer
Ground Slam - doesn't apply
Heavy Strike
Infernal Blow
Lightning Strike
Sweep - doesn't apply

Double Strike
Dual Strike
Puncture

You forgot Leap Slam.

also very interested to see if this works on whirling blades.. giving it larger aoe might make it viable
It increases the melee weapon range.

Cleave, sweep, ground slam, etc do not use the weapon range - they have their own AoE radius that they use, which is notable bigger. So they are not affected.

Anything which is making an actual weapon swing like the default attack will be using the weapon's range, and thus benefit. Cyclone uses the weapon's range to determine AoE radius.

Mark, could you plz provide an example of 2 wpns and their difference in ranges, so that we might better understand what a range of "2" is?

thx
One-handed melee weapons have a range of 4, two-handed melee weapons have a range of 5

Cleave is a ~120 degree arc that projects forward somewhat. If you attack fast enough, you can kite with it by waving your beatstick in front of you as you retreat, especially if you pick up increased aoe passives/gear.

Compared to GS's 1/3 screen distance, it's much more "melee".
Likewise Sweep and Leap Slam's aoe radius are short enough that calling them "melee" isn't a stretch of the imagination.
Cleave is 180 degrees - a full half circle.
You're right about the radius, in that cleave is 20. Ground lam is 35 (but only a 90 degree arc), leaving cleave pretty much halfway between base melee range and ground slam. Sweep has the same radius as cleave, but a full circle rather than half.

The melee weapon range passive adds 2 to the range of melee weapons (one handed weapons go form 4 to 6, two handed from 5 to 7). It has no effect on any skill that doesn't use the weapon's range, such as cleave, sweep, and ground slam.
