Melee Range
In the the tentative 0.10.2 notes, we can read
" I'm interested in the "+2 melee range" bit. What is that exactly? I can now hit things further away, I'm guessing, but how much -- a fingerwidth, handsbreadth, daggerlength, or what? thanks so much Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion

Your normal attack with a 1h weapon is 4, so +2 is 50% increased.
Cleave is 20 by default, so +2 is 10% increased aoe. It's a nice, flavorful bonus. Really good for Facebreakers/IB builds in general. |

I did not know Cleave was such a huge jump from straight melee range.
So it's more like a 'wave' than an actual representation of the weapon's arc? Hm. Maybe I will have to review my definition of it as melee after all. I agree that this range implementation is nifty. It's going to encourage a lot more shift play. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Cleave is a ~120 degree arc that projects forward somewhat. If you attack fast enough, you can kite with it by waving your beatstick in front of you as you retreat, especially if you pick up increased aoe passives/gear.
Compared to GS's 1/3 screen distance, it's much more "melee". Likewise Sweep and Leap Slam's aoe radius are short enough that calling them "melee" isn't a stretch of the imagination. |

Thank you.
Where are you getting the information with the numbers 4 and 20 please sir? I have not seen this anywhere, could be useful to add to the Mechanics thread. Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion

" Also, I'm curious about the normal ranges of skills. |

"Cleave is 180 degrees - a full half circle. You're right about the radius, in that cleave is 20. Ground lam is 35 (but only a 90 degree arc), leaving cleave pretty much halfway between base melee range and ground slam. Sweep has the same radius as cleave, but a full circle rather than half. The melee weapon range passive adds 2 to the range of melee weapons (one handed weapons go form 4 to 6, two handed from 5 to 7). It has no effect on any skill that doesn't use the weapon's range, such as cleave, sweep, and ground slam. Last edited by Mark_GGG#0000 on Mar 6, 2013, 10:50:18 PM

Just a random question:
For the sake of flavor, why not make certan 2-h weapons have 6 range instead of 5? Particular ones I'm thinking are Poleaxe, Vile Spear, and Halberd. Those would be traditional polearm type weapons, and would normally have a little extra range over the others. 6 vs 5 isn't going to be game-breaking, and a tiny nerf on damage/AS on these would compensate for the +1 range. I'll smash your nose with 20 Alterations before I'll sell them for 1 lousy Chaos. 16:1. No questions. |

" That was my gut intuition, but a post by Qarl tricked me. ;_; |

Facebreakers using Infernal blow: Does the +range affect this skill? You said it would only apply to the range of your weapon, so my guess is no because you have no weapon equipped.
