Elemental Proliferation

I was really excited about this skill because it (potentially) makes single target skills as useful as, but different from AOE skills. Glacial hammer is the skill I planned around this. I thought it would be good because with a little luck and some crits I could be survivable as a melee witch with a 2 handed hammer.

Since a 2 handed hammer with Glacial hammer is all about high damage, and hopefully as many one shot kills as possible, it's really disappointing that when you one shot kill an enemy it does nothing.

From what I'm reading it makes little rings that stay on the enemy while they are alive or unshattered and burning. It sounds interesting, but I would really prefer it if it just did an instant AOE at the point of impact affecting all enemies within range whether you kill the target or not.(or even create one of those little circles for x amount of time) Would that be something technically possible to do, and are there any reasons why you guys might not want it to work that way?

As it is, Sweep is always preferable for any small group of monsters.

It never radiates freeze if the monster is dead

the only post-mortem radiating effect is burn

and enemies that shattered can't burn

so you'd actually be better off dual wielding really low damage fast attack maces if you want to proliferate freezes!

Yeah, I know. I just don't think that's a fun way to make my character...I want to be a witch with a big wooden mallet! haha. :) I think one should be able to be high, slow, single target damage and benefit from this support, instead of being penalized. When I first saw this new support gem my immediate thought was that used appropriately, it would make single target skills useful in a whole new way, and not leave you thinking "well I might as well just use Cleave/Sweep/Nova skill instead of glacial hammer/heavy strike/any non-AOE spell, because they are flat out better.

*Edit: Perhaps "penalized" is the wrong word to use, as it implies balance and what not, since basically it totally negates this gem if you kill things in one hit.

the current implementation of this gem is very counter-intuitive and has a number of associated bugs
I think there is a problem with Elemental Proliferation kills not registering as kills / your kills at all.

I killed Hillock with EP but still get the message "You must kill Hillock first" when trying to enter camp. He did not die from an attack on him, but from catching fire from a burning corpse on the ground (with elemental proliferation), after wandering around a bit. Killing him with burn damage after a burning arrow hit works fine.

This got me thinking, and I tried burning "drowned" to death for a while. It looks to me like I do not receive any xp whatsoever for those that burn to death from EP. No flask charges either.

Please look into this.
Sounds like this works as an aura with kills credited to the mob carrying the aura. If that's true I hope it gets fixed because this is definitely one of the most interesting gems.
yep, you get no flask charges or mana back from kills either

its why im not playing my elemental proliferation avatar of flame witch in chaos - i just go oom and my flasks never recharge.

its designed around using crit flasks + daggers to kill groups with just 1-2 crits on flicker strike, but the bug renders both my +25 mana on kill nodes and my flasks moot Q_Q
Aura logic is updated in 0.9.9 to allow the aura to assign kills back to the creator of the initial aura - for elemental proliferation, this will mean things dying to burns on other creatures you've set on fire will count as kills for you.
mark, any very very rough eta on 0.9.9? is it a matter of days, weeks, months...?

THANK GOD, then I can remove lesser multiple as I only needed it to gain charges for my flasks lol... ( If you dont nerf diamond flasks... )
