Got scammed for the first time. Sucks :(

As title really. Just wanted somewhere to vent.


I've been enjoying this league a lot since launch. Lucked out on my first build and 6Linked my belly in sub 20fuses. Decided that berzerker was too squishy for molten strike and I'd reroll to jugg.

Sold my 6L Belly, started levelling. Bought a Kaoms heart ready with the currency. Had some left over and decided to go get a Grelwood shank ready. Prices were floating around 1.3ex (lowest I've seen them in this league so far) so pulled the trigger.

Messaged a guy on PoE trade (don't think I can name him due to forum rules - but he's still selling, probably aiming to scam more people) and we discussed what the 0.3 of an exalt was. Agreed a price. Went to his hideout, he put the item in, I checked the stats (obviously not thorough enough). The phys damage and attack speed all matched. Great. Dropped the currency in, all 1ex and 36c - which may not seem like much to most of you but I don't get to play all that much due to working so much - and we both accepted.

'Easy' he typed, and immediately left party.

He'd got a Beltimber blade with the exact same Phys damage and attack speed rolls, and seeing as the splash art is nearly identical, I was none the wiser. Not really experienced with buying things at this sort of price. Really sucks though. He left party and carried on running maps.

A reminder to check your trades thoroughly folks! Never been scammed before and I forget sometimes that there are people that dishonest in the world. Sort of puts a massive downer on wanting to play now. Exited the game just after and really don't feel like continuing this league.

That really sucks man. Scammers have a special place in hell reserved for them lol.

Nothing else I can really say. I wish you luck recouping for your loss, may RNG be in your favor. ;)

It's a shame GGG can't enforce it somehow. And sad to say I just tried to re-buy the same item on my other character and he did the exact same thing (had no intention of buying). I think plenty of people are going to get caught out by this.

Don't really care if this post gets removed or I get banned or whatever. Given up playing PoE for this league, maybe overall. This scam thing has sort of changed my outlook on this games community.

Gosh, so sorry to hear that happened to you! That majorly sucks!

Maybe GGG can test this out and try to do a trade with the scammer. If the scammer pulls the same trick, just ban that account permanently.

I think scammers like that need to be banned.

Don't give up because of this.

A dude made a wrong trade with me once (I was winning big time from his mistake)
And I gladly refunded the dude!

Not all players are asses.
When buying gear I check line by line:
All stats
Socket colors
Enchantmens
Corruption
Item quality
Even itemlevel

Just take your time, sellers won't mind if it takes you 15seconds before accepting a trade.
If they do, screw them.

Please don't let this bad experience wreck the entire fun for you.

OP, did you even try to contact him? Maybe - MAYBE - he made a mistake himself and grabbed the wrong sword?
Happened to me, too. OF course I did refund the item. Mistakes can happen.
