Don't nerf Syndicate encounters

And yet here you are, complaining that the game is too hard.
If you want to keep running around with -48 chaos res and keep dying, go ahead. But then blame yourself if you rip when hard chaos hitting things flatten you straight away.

Serious question: How is chaos res helping with Janus?

Oh he is not doing any chaos damage, never mind.

Don't get me wrong, as somebody who really enjoys games like the Dark Souls series I don't mind getting beat up by a challenging encounter from time to time - even though it's a bit strange to have such encounters in games like PoE with a core gameplay that's not exactly well suited for that kind of difficulty - and I'm not hesitant to say that a player struggling everytime the syndicate shows up should step up his game, but this fight was just ridiculous. Maybe I'm finally getting old, but I'd rather think that we actually have a problem with encounter design and balancing, whether those advocating for not nerfing them realise it or not.

The information gathering board might be a tad too complex. I feel like GGG intended for it to be a type 'customizable difficulty system', but for a game that requires next to no brain activity to suddenly add a system that is akin to theorycrafting a build with no previous knowledge or offline help... it's too much at once.

Read some early post and what I'm mostly seeing is players that have been playing for years arguing with newer players.

I started playing this game 2 months ago and considering how my first month went before I started to actually be able to sustain myself, it was not always enjoyable. If I had started to play the game now I would have probably quit at the atlas around T5-T8.

It's fine to say the difficulty is brain dead, but its another thing to say "It's matching my skill level now, please don't change it." when you are a player that has been playing for years.
If it's matching your skill level now finally... Then the game is unplayable for a new player. Please consider your own experience earned through the years, realize that it did not happen overnight and that expecting the same amount of skill from a new player is a bit inconsiderate. We do know the amount of new players is through the roof right now.

If someone wants to argue that the syndicate can be manipulated to be easier, then you're basically expecting every new player to fully understand how the syndicate works before they even know how to play the game which is also an unreasonable expectation. Coming into this game with no knowledge definitely won't be a brain-dead experience I guarantee you that.

And to all that I say...
They call themselves Grinding Gears Game, let's show them that the entire screen being green of explosions is not grinding my gears. It's just expecting a level of focus that I'm finding insulting from a video game.

you're arguing that the game should be balanced around the ignorant (new)/willfully ignorant (ie: those calling us "trolls").

that makes zero sense. it's illogical. why reward bad play?

in theory, the ignorant should become knowledgeable (unless they choose to remain ignorant, which then makes this their own fault, anyway... and moot). is that not the point? should new players who don't know the game mechanics be able to just jump in and 'win?' when that happens, the game is silly and basically pointless... and the knowledgeable players are bored/afking content/etc.

fun fact: many of those complaining in this thread were complaining that delve was also too hard and advocating for the xp penalty to be removed. there's a pattern here.

balancing around learning players is not the same as rewarding bad play. Please consider the comparison with standard: the game is significantly more predictable. While new and bad players will probably be stopped around yellow/red maps, there is nothing on white maps killing them all the time.

where do you see the reward in not oneshotting them permanently on T1-5?
again, the big problem with the argument that 'the syndicate is just too strong and one-shots everyone and there's just nothing to be done about it and omg i just give up...'

is that it's false.

people made level 100 in a couple days, same with previous leagues. hell, someone even already made 100 in ssfhc betrayal.

additionally, many players just don't have these problems. which clearly illustrates that it's not a universal problem.

which means the problem people are having is either of skill or game knowledge. either way, it makes no logical sense to balance the game around them. when the game's balanced around the worst players, the better players have little to really do.

it actually is.

No, but new mechanic or event shouldn't giving newbie hard time during their normal progression. Sometime you accidentally or inevitably trigger it, and assassin come after you when you are not strong enough, then you screw.

Anyway the only scenario i dislike is sometime the gate is almost in the same screen of caravan. Is it a glitch or I am really must prepare to instant kill the caravan?
