PoE vs Diablo 3 release date !
Well now that Blizz have set the 15th of May for the Diablo 3 release date, how far off is PoE ?
Seems to me that D3 will attract many (including me), and due to the fact that I was a Diablo addict since D1, I think I will stick to one ARPG at a time. What do you guys think ? |

this will happen every few hours or so, every day
the release date of PoE doesn't matter they are both going to be good and popular different games, for different gamers all is good in the world |

" And PoE is free... why would you not try it out? :P Above content may contain traces of nonsense.
Reality is simply an unrealistic version of online gaming. |

Going off of my beta experience of both games I see D3 as the challenger looking to prove something against POE here. No doubt D3 will out sell POE no questions asked, you could put the Blizzard and Diablo title on an empty box and it's pre-orders alone would out sell nearly every other game on the planet that doesn't have a COD sticker on it, but will it last? Will D3 be able to keep the fanbois playing for more than a month or two after the next random popular title game comes out? Will POE completely fold under their marketing strategy and never be heard from again, we don't know. So making arguments over things we don't know is pointless.
Comparing the two betas I see the game appealing to two different extremes while of course there will be some overlap and like myself many people will simply play both to satisfy their needs. I see D3 as the causal time killer, from the second you press create character you are an unstoppable killing machine, a god in the world. You can do the beta naked hc without ever dropping below 90% hp, who knows maybe there is some massively steep slop coming up that just throws everyone off the deep end and the game ends up relatively challenging before wasting too much time, but probably not. In all likelihood it will be a slowly ramping up of difficulty that doesn't get to relatively easy before the end of normal. No worries of having to build a character, everything is done for you, stats, skills, talents, all you have to worry about is picking up shiny loot and kicking the shit out of demons. PvP is still "Soon TM" so hard to really count it into the mix cause it could be a normal soon or a blizzard soon aka we'll throw it in the next expan to get people to come back to the game. A pvp that resides only in arenas. On the other you have POE which aims towards the more hardcore crowd and focus on the point of character customization to an extreme, to a level that can be seen as alienating to causal gamers, literally hundreds of choices to tweak a character to your play style. A game that throws you into the not so shallow water from the start, today there was a beta HC ladder race and chat was full of people dying before ever getting to lvl 6 and forums full of vet players giving stories of how they lost their top characters and theory crafting on ways to tweak them so they can hopefully make it further next time. A sample of PvP is already in the game and is quiet entertaining, with more in the works. If I've never played this game before and you told me it was D3 from Blizzard I wouldn't even bother to think twice about it and would just continue enjoying an amazing game. A pvp system planned to include everything from dueling, instanced war grounds to all out world pvp in which you can hunt down your enemy, kill the bastard and loot his gear. Winner of the First Ever Cut-Throat Server Test, and Winner of the First Ever Cut-Throat League Event! Last edited by NotSorry#0178 on Mar 18, 2012, 3:02:22 PM

" lol you wont get a real answer on the POE forums. Just typical biased answers. So don't waste your time |

I don't see this competing against Diablo 3... they are fundamentally different. Not in the gameplay mechanics but in the style of player they are going to attract.
Blizzard's games are so polished they practically play themselves and try to cater to this mythical casual gamer mentality (the kind of player who wouldn't pay 65$ for a game called Diablo anyway). I think Blizzard is confused with regards to what people liked about Diablo. They have cut a good deal of it out of Diablo 3 in favor of a more "friendly" ez-mode gameplay. They also removed a lot of the social aspects of Battle.NET. This game feels much more like the Diablo that I remember than Diablo 3 does. Last edited by Lendari#6644 on Mar 18, 2012, 10:31:05 PM

I think the difference is how much you`ll end up paying. Even though this game is a free to play MMO, which means there will be tons of micro-transactions, none of them will be essential to game play. Diablo III seems more greedy. I`ll stick to waiting for this and Grim Dawn.
