Client open for 70 hours, but probably < 50 hours actual playtime, during commercial breaks, etc.

The game obviously attracts intelligent and articulate people, but what is surprising is that they can continue to derive satisfaction from doing the same basic thing over and over and over. If this was 1995 and everyone was 13 years old, I would *totally get it*, but its 2018 and most of the people are adults with prior history in games.

I can only play about 30 minutes at a time. Empty inventory, do a circle or two, then I'm done.

What I've noticed:

*Drops are fewer and farther between the higher level I have gotten. The "loot pinata" aspect is trending down.

*I've seen many (most?) builds are just variations of AOE spells that get larger diameter/spread the more sockets are linked. In one case it might be fireballs, in another lightning, in another arrows raining from the sky. But its all the same idea, an expanding AOE cloud.

*Builds are cookie cutter and for the majority of the player base there is no creativity. At least not within the first 500 hours.

*There is no real competition. I suppose players race at the beginning of a season, but for the most part its a sandbox game. But there is nothing to show for it. At least in Minecraft you can share your creations. In PoE what are you going to share, a build you copied? (Look ma, no hands!) Really?

*There is an undercurrent of *addiction* referenced in the forums. I've read many people talk about how they are getting so out of shape, having played 5K, 10K+ hours, neglecting life responsibilities, etc.. That playing PoE is basically a never ending grind for gear. Based on the simplicity of the game, I can't imagine that any healthy adults would derive any long term satisfaction from this. I suspect addiction and avoidance behavior is behind most of the hours logged in PoE.

Serious question, do you long term players get a gambler's high when an expensive piece of gear drops? Is that what keeps you playing? I'm at the point where the loot pinata is drying up and I just don't seem to care. If I got a 6L unique I probably wouldn't care at this point.

I'm mid act-9 and will probably finish just for the story, but based on what i know about human nature, PoE is designed to prey upon addictive behavior. As a game, its basically a 90's side scroller with fancy graphics and a zillion gems that do the same thing.

for weak players , POE is always "unfair, boring, unbalanced, not rewarding ,etc,etc....."
git gud dude !!! and u 'll discover wat POE is for real.....

Maps and endgame are where the real content are. And I don’t play every league, maybe every 3 leagues or so, thus when I come back it’s like a new game with all sorts of added content.

The one thing that makes me isolated is the rather poor partying options. It’s not easy to quick join a party with similar mapping aims to make friends and roll, and this is usually how i quit each league... because of lack of human contact.
50 hours to lvl 63, already writes a wall of text about the game and talks shit about people who love playing it.
You just went full pepega, never go full pepega.
i enjoy theory crafting and coming up with new build ideas. but yeah, once you hit maps it just becomes this painfully monotonous grind that i can not stand.
Because pepole think the game is fun. I personally like the endgame maps, uber elder, finding the best items etc.

If you dont like the game and are having fun, you really shouldnt play it. That goes for all games, why would you play a game that you dont like?
It's fine, PoE is not for everybody. If you are feeling dissatisfied after the DIablo Immortal fiasco there are plenty of other RPGs for that itch.

Know that PoE is by far the most complex and with the most advanced end game world out of the whole lot.

Looks like you cam to PoE expecting RPG, not ARPG.
Even though I've been playing (a lot) since the closed beta days, I can understand where the OP is coming from, although it is not explained properly imho.

Truth is 90% of video games from many different genres can be boiled down to what the OP said, mindless grinding/repeating the same thing over and over again.

What differentiates that experience, is the way we perceive it, rather than what we actually do. I'll give an example.

For me, unless a game has an engaging story (random example: Metal Gear Solid), it basically feels like what the OP described. Sure I've enjoyed my time with PoE, D2, WoW and lots of other games, but after looking back, it seems like a hollow experience on it's own that hasn't really made any impact in my life.

What gave this kind of games meaning, is actually interacting with friends and communities and spending time together exploring the game, discovering stuff and contesting each other.

Especially in PoE, its really amazing how much you can enjoy it even without actually playing the game (theory-crafting), and it's my favorite thing about it.

If this is not for you, then this is not for you. If you don't wanna try the game, the ACTUAL game, then don't try it. But you know nothing about the game or about the people playing it. You basically are talking shit about something that you don't know, and preemptively talking shit about anyone that could disagree with you.

So look! You still know nothing about us, but we already know something about you! Go ahead, dude, we don't need people like you here.
