[3.5] Occultist Cold DoT Caster (Cold Snap + Vortex) WIP

Played with build a bit more. Here is the new PoB - https://pastebin.com/69n0mit9

First of all - Temp chains are now on Blasphemy. Changed belt to Bated Breath (can't believe I forgot about this awesome belt). Bit of changes to the skilltree, also removed EE from the tree and added ZiggyD's "unnerfed" unique ring Malachai's Artifice to proc EE from Orb of Storms. This way we lose useful ring stats, but now EE will only be procced by OoS, so we wont have to drop it during mapping to negate Cold Snap's initial hit proccing +25% Cold res.

Increased duration on Frost Bomb looks kinda awkward considering it delays the explosion as well.

Only thing Frost Bomb is used for is -25% Cold Res debuff. I don't care about explosion at all.
why would you use bow for vortex ? it's a spell that can be casted with basic wand no ?

Winter Orb is a hitting spell, this build is made to scale Damage over Time, so you would need to make some adjustments here and there. I was playing with the idea of Winter Orb + CwC in Whispering Ice, but it won't be a good starter build IMHO.
Taryn's Shiver is a great staff but this particular build has its main defense in fast start of Energy Shield Recharge provided by Soul Strike quiver. Also getting +3 bow will be not very hard (just slap +2 Cold Essence and hope for +1 to all, it is all you need from your bow).

Because I'm using Soul Strike Quiver for faster start of ES recharge which is amazing with Wicked Ward notable in Occultist ascendancy. Also main skill is Cold Snap, Vortex is just to add another source of DoT on bosses cause they stack.

Where did you find that? https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2255835 - here are lvl 20 gem info from GGG. Winter Orb shoots projectiles which exlode in AoE, nothing about DoT there.

Most of the gear is rare so it should be, but it might be hard to play without Soul Strike since that is what gives Occultist so much survivability. It will be possible, but might feel very clunky and not safe.


check the video of winter orb. You will see that he shot at target they get frozen and 2 seconds later they explode so it's a damage over time effect too

That's not what "damage over time" means.

Literally nothing about Winter Orb applies damage over time. See for yourself:

Specific description of skill mechanics.

The gem tooltip as it will appear in game (for a 20/20 gem).
