I don't consider this EXCELLENT player retention

https://steamcharts.com/app/238960#1y

For starters, there is a clear trend of losing players.

Look closely, and the initial spike of players leaving is pretty drastic. Then the slop gradually declines. Not the worst player retention GGG has seen, far cry from excellent in my opinion.

I just don't understand how a company can lose 50% of it's players in a month and call that excellent player retention.

There is a significant number of people who would never play the same game for several weeks in a row.

They come at the start of a new league and they play for something like 1 to 4 weeks and then leave. And no matter how good the league is, they will leave. Playing the same game for longer is just not something they are interested in doing.

There will always be a spike and there will always be a significant drop off.

GGG has the full numbers for all league starts and if those numbers tell them the drop off for this league is better than most past leagues, then good for them.
But it is good compared to other leagues = progress. Compare it with Incursion which was a great league all around.

Incursion
95K start - 42K 1 month

Delve
75K start - 45K 1 month

I don't like Delve for various reasons but it is what it is.

Somebody needs to explain to OP that PoE isn't an MMO
The OP has to learn steam is NOT i repeat NOT the only client... there is a client that LOTS LOTS of people use... the steam numbers aren't really accurate.

Of course it is.

MMO simply means Massively Multiplayer Online, which PoE is. You can play with people from all over the world, connected all at the same time. MMO says nothing about the gameplay.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

Its not unusual that games can have even 90% drop off after a while, maitaining 50% is indeed great retention.

Incursion = insane power creep with no end game.
Delve = actual end game.

What cant you guys understand?
