why is this 33 pages long?

Because some people feel strongly enough about this issue that this thread has mostly degenerated into several flame wars. It's really just good entertainment at this point, new insights haven't appeared in a while now and the warring factions will not get their opinion changed anyway.

Obviously robmafia dont want the death penalty to be changed or to evolve into someting better lmao

He is so convinced that every one will be 100 in a blink of an eye during a league ;)

This is probably kind of stupid but it occurred to me so what the hell... what about instead of a penalty that makes you go backwards you instead had a penalty that stopped you from going forwards? So let's say that 10% XP at level 90 is 1 hour of mapping (just picking some numbers for demonstration purposes). What if instead of losing an hour of XP you just can't gain XP for an hour? Each time you die it adds an hour on to whatever time you have left, up to a maximum amount (maybe 24 hours?).

it's still basically the same as not having a penalty. with enough playtime, even the worst players would hit 100.

I don’t think that’s true actually but I'm not married to the idea so I don’t really feel like trying to break it down more to see if that is accurate. Just thinking outside the box a bit. I’ll get back in my box now and let the big boys get back to their arguments.

Edit: If your claim is correct then it would be true under the current mechanic as well. In either case if you die your progress to 100 is hindered by the same amount per death. If you can make up the time in the system I proposed then you can also make up the time in the current system. Just don’t die, right? ;)

I don't think there is enough good will for the discussion on topic between players who like penalties and players who don't, but I'll still stress out one point:

If you really believed speedrocketing to lvl 100 would pose a problem without penalty, you could alternatively consider a timed penalty of gaining NO xp after a death. For example (numbers are of course arbitrary) a player dying mid level 95 would get a penalty of gaining no xp for 3 hours or so, a player dying at level 97 would get no xp for 5 hours. No penalty was needed, because dying would severely hinder your progress -however, one would not experience death as a punishment to their progress gained so far via excessive xp loss.

For me it is a total BS argument to say I want speedrun to lvl 100. That is a problem concerning streamers and nolifers, not casuals. What I hate about current system is the feeling of forced HC mode, where dying equals taking away your hours spent playing.

This concept would be really bad. Let me tell you why. Because it would encourage ppl to turn off the game the second they die and reconnect after "X" amount of time where X=deat penalty time. Why would you even play when you gain no XP..?? It makes zero sense. So even trying to get lost XP back makes more sense than getting nothing IMO.

No, I disagree. Let me tell why: what you are saying would make foremost sense to those spending countless hours a day playing -the aforementioned streamers and nolifers. If you compare my suggestion to current system this should be very clear. Besides it wouldn't follow you could not play, it only follows you could not gain xp for a while -granted you died, and why not git gut and not die, right? There was much discussion on meaning of death here, and I am not principally opposed to giving it some meaning or making it hinder your progress to 100. What I am opposed is making death mean player loses his progress. That is why I would take any day my version over the current one.

Now, I get it that at levels 1-85 or so the proposition might feel different due to early deaths and how much more you gain xp just by plain playing the game versus random deaths. That is why my suggestion mainly covers those painful levels of 95+.

Casuals could still play just as normal, because dying wouldn't take their earned progress away. Those running for ladder would still greatly benefit by not dying at all.

Also my suggestion would solve the ridiculous way how players have to first ding, after which they can take on all the harder content with no worries. Mid leveling a casual player is just screwed and has to 'play it safe'.

By the way is there a forum option to black list spammers/trolls, since obviously mods aren't banning them?

No, I disagree...

No thanks. I'm lvl 98 and 90% as SSF I died couple of times so I know how it feels trust me. It made me to focus more on defenses and figuring how to survive. Overall it made my progress feel deserved and ads a weight and meaning to it. If I ever get to lvl 100 it would feel as achievement for me especially as SSF. "Your" system would ruin that experience completly.

Theres no reason to push casuals or bad players to high levels. You work hard, you manage, figure out, etc.. Heres your price. Otherwise stay down or find other casual friendly game and dont spoil maybe the last one which is at least somehow chalenging.

BTW I'm not no-lifer at all. I go to work every day, I go to the gym 4 times a week etc. So my opinion is not a no-lifer one.
