If you're bad at video games you shouldn't review games at all.
" If the storymode would allow more options for a friendlier run-through for the new while keeping your experience much the same, would you be against that? For example, do you feel that the ingame tutorials have reduced your fun? Did you try turning it off and on again? Last edited by kaepae#2068 on Aug 23, 2018, 6:14:14 AM

People and "video game journalists" who complain about PoE being not engaging enough or having obscure mechanics need to take a look back at D2.
There was barely no explanation and online ressources (like poe wiki) were way less accessible, making everything a long trial and error process. I remember when i first reached inferno on my full ice witch and realized 1 mob out of 4 was totally immune to ice, rendering my build useless for further progress. Maybe i'm more experienced now with ARPG but i think PoE hits the new players nowhere quite as hard as D2. Still D2 was critically-acclaimed... | |
" Friend of mine took 2 weeks to finish story, he cleaned all maps did all quests, and explored every map. Almost never died though. Each their way to play a game. Last edited by EzBreesy#4599 on Aug 23, 2018, 6:26:38 AM

Tutorials are fine, an option to make content easier isnt. Imagine your favorite game and now imagine a skip boss button or skip level option. Obviously extreme examples but the point is still that something is lost when the option to just make content easier is presented even if the gameplay is the same if you skip ignore it
Especially with this game where it thematically clashes with how wraeclast is supposed to be Last edited by Sprinklepacket#3613 on Aug 23, 2018, 6:38:43 AM

He says poe is for people who like to build fast cars.
But somehow he didn't really get into his char and he didn't completely enjoy playing. He did so little damage to white mobs... |

" Neither do devs, hardly any actually play their games. Balance changes are proof of this. Last edited by HappyRogue#6160 on Aug 23, 2018, 7:03:09 AM

" I agree on these options being extreme and I wouldn't want them in the game either. But there are better ones. An optional side quest that helps against Cauldron Doedre/Kitava A10, reducing their power? Or optional ones that give some good fixed gear, knowing it would take extra time to do them for the benefits of easier fights? There are ways to help new players without reducing the challenge for the experienced. And I get your point: content exists for a reason and there needs to be a limit to holding hands. Did you try turning it off and on again?

" If only the title or the first sentence in the video said that. It took him 75 hours to complete the 10 act campaign (acts 1-10) Last edited by almostdead#6338 on Aug 23, 2018, 6:56:35 AM

" I think these are really good ideas, I agree with some of ur other thoughts too. " you really skip these things tho? Nasty rares? Is that even a thing? To me I feel like I can make the most basic build, just take life nodes and some damage nodes, self found, with basic skills Im given in act1 and I just delete every rare I ever come across. I wouldnt skip any of these things unless the reason was that I couldnt be bothered and it was just a waste of time, its never because theyre actually challenging. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Starting poe today as a new player is waaayyy more different than 5 years ago. Five years ago there was no wiki, no third party trade, a barely empty forum (except for trading), doing 20k dps was considered tier 1, etc... Nowdays, anyone new willing to take some time to do a little research, either on the wiki or build guides will do fine with their first char. And as far as I know, part of the job of a game reviewer is to do research. Here this wasn't done.
