the first time i looked at grim dawn i thought they can't be serious with these animations and textures from the last millenium, it's so fugly i wouldn't spend a dime on it.
Grim Dawn has much much higher quality and way more detailed environment / ground textures than PoE.
Character/ armor textures are also way way better on Grim Dawn - my bet is you either haven't played for a looong time or you haven't maxed the graphics.
The only thing that is WAY better in Poe is the skill effects / animations.
didn't play, nowadays you watch some youtube vids. and yes, it's been mostly the animations which led me to the conclusion.
the number screens were quite impressive and had the charme of a spreadsheet. i quite liked that ;)
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

Grim Dawn which i really really like has one massive problem that is probably more of a personal one.
The combat doesn't feel impactful. Not that PoE has this covered, but it's a bit better. The other thing that annoys me is that once you hit max level, which is fast,it somehow feels like 50% of the fun disappears, you kill and kill and kill, but you feel nothing. Extremely hard leveling after a certain point or non-horrible paragon system would help GD allot.
IMO.

If not mentioned yet, there is Shadows: Awekening. Announcement is here.
That doesn't look promising, at least by the trailer.
First, it's not clear why playing 15 different characters at once will be all that meaningful. It seems virtually impossible to balance gameplay for 15 different character types that could be switched into at any time. In the end, there is probably going to be one or two default characters used and then others will probably just be for niche occasions. Some character types will probably just function as noob traps, with experienced players essentially never playing them.
Second, ARPG players often prefer to just loot and kill, with some additional game elements for flavor. That video emphasizes that puzzles will be important, plus there are trap gauntlets. All key game elements will need to be designed and implemented well, as the weakest link probably becomes the key limiter for player enjoyment. And, it's unlikely that the dev team is equally talented and creative with all the different gameplay elements being mixed together here.
Third, at the end of the day the combat looks pretty much like other combat games. There seems to be nothing new about combat beyond character switching that's being brought to the table, at least by the trailer.
Or, you know, just run through the traps like in the video haha!
Looks interesting - slow, but interesting. I will definitely check it out. Not seeing loot dropping at all in that video concerns me. That Vikings ARPG that came out a while back was decent but the loot system ruined it for me. I like the rain of loot ARPGs!

To me, Grim Dawn does a great job.
