Why nerf breach....again?

Shppy answered Riael1's response to me, so I see no reason to go into that further - what Shppy answered was indeed my point.

Here's another musing about the why.
Incursion is ... pretty much Breach. It's basically time-travel Breach, which means it has a blur effect rather than a purple palette, and a Vaal theme instead of extra-planar entities. Woot. Anyway, outside of that, it's also going to be loot-heavy, like Breach.
Incursion is going to be in literally every map, while Breach for most players is not even close to appearing in every map - though obviously high-end players will be able to hit Zana 8 and afford to use the Breach mod she offers constantly at some point, this is fairly hard to do for the majority of players.
For this league, specifically, it can be argued that all the loot from Incursion, for most of the playerbase, makes up for the reduction in loot from Breach.
That could be (part of) why GGG reduced the loot from Breach.

That's this league, though, and the question is what happens after. Because I don't think they will immediately revert this droprate change with the next league. And most leagues, if they get incorporated into the main game, are reduced in frequency, so Alva will most likely not be appearing in every map anymore, if Incursion is kept around.

So unless the next league is another loot piñata league that takes the place of Incursion in terms of the amount of loot that drops, or the league after that, and so on, at some point we'll be left with the reduced drops in Breaches as well as not having a full-time lootfest in its place to compensate.

Those last two paragraphs are a bit of a devil's advocate thing as, again, I don't particularly care about about the droprates in Breaches, so I don't have much of a horse in that race - it just seemed like an obvious problem with that particular idea. Maybe they're trying to wean the playerbase off of their Breach obsession? But I expect those same people will throw a fit as soon as there's a league that's not loot-heavy, like what happened in Bestiary.

I do agree with a lot of what you said. During Incursion, especially, I could see Breach as a problem. It is a balancing act, no doubt. Especially in a loot league.

I am not so much obsessed with Breaches as I don't have a problem with how few actually show up in maps and I don't plan on using Zana Mods. I just like the fact that we can have random things like a Breach show up in maps to change the same old same old. While I hated Bestiary, it was because of the mechanics and half finished product. I would have loved for the beast themselves to make it into the main game as a random, just for the change up as well. Nothing like running through a map and then randomly running into a Red to shake things up a bit. So my goal is most certainly not loot.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

And what about the standard players like me? Personally I don't mind if breaches drop less loot since they're a loot pinata (literally feels like they drop more loot than the whole rest of the map), but I really hope that this doesn't lower the shard count, because it is a pain in the arse to make a breachstone. I only finally managed one a few days ago and managed to kill Esh for the first time, ever (sadly no blessing). I wouldn't mind doing more maps like that, even on my slow ass build.

Shard counts won't really change much, it was only normal and magic monsters that had their drops nerfed. Splinters are overwhelmingly primarily dropped by rares and the clasped hands. Magics and normals *can* drop them, but much much less frequently, to the extent that these nerfs probably won't make a difference to splinters.

And you - again - pretend like getting more breaches is a day 1 login reward bonus. Not to mention that this league and the one before Bestiary didn't even have it as a zana mod. Besides that, you can get 1 randomly from sextants. Once in a blue moon. [Removed by Support]

Abyss ('the one before bestiary') had zana breach. And the sextant mod is fairly common, it's the same chance as all the other 'most common' ones.

That's a very good point, that honestly I overlooked. If that is truly the case, then I really don't care that much about the change.

So now that Incursion has been out for a while, and we've played with this change in place - how do people feel about it?

Personally, I don't think the reduced loot in Breaches is that big a deal, and if anything I appreciate the reduction in clutter, but at the same time the loot from Incursions - which is guaranteed in every map, as opposed to Breach - is pretty freaking obscene. I get more rares from a single Incursion than from multiple pre-nerf Breaches? Seems kind of silly to reduce the loot in Breaches a bit and then go overboard on Incursion loot. At that point they might as well have left Breach the way it is and make the loot from Incursion more reasonable.

(Seriously, just don't make mechanics where, while playing in the intended way, more loot is dropped than can possibly fit on your screen when highlighted. At least Ghostbusting wasn't intended. Using an item filter should not be a requirement, it should be a preference.)

I've run a bunch of low map breaches and loot still seems reasonable to me. I mean, infinity minus a bunch is still infinity, so there is still a screen full of loot when I am done.

I can't distill it down further than that, I guess.

I agree completely. Which is why I'm always complaining on the forum about how I'd like the stuff from the old leagues to be present more often. Yes, having everything, or maybe even 3 things on every map would be a tad too much for most people, but what would be wrong with at least 1 something (Breach, Abyss, Perandus chest, Bestiary beast etc.) being there in every map?

As for the Breach drop rate... not sure, haven't done enough this league yet. They do feel a tad emptier now that you've mentioned it, but maybe I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. The splinters are the main fun there for me. :)
Neither of us have said those things? You posted "quotes" made up out of whole cloth.
