We can finally have a battle royale for real this time

That is probably what brought Tencent's attention to POE in the first place..
When righteousness falters
And chaos threatens to prevail
I take on a physical body
And manifest myself on earth.

Believe it, that was just a teaser for things to come. Happened to fortnite. Awesome pve then boom out of nowhere battle fucking royale.

Edit: poe may come to mobile aswell

As a Chinese, That is Tencent most likely to do in China IMO
They can say what they want.. but this is not going to bring any good to PoE as we know it.

If we look at videogames history, this kind of acquisitions always meant bad things in the long run. Should I mention all the legendary developers that got fagocitated by Electronic Arts over the years?

We all love PoE for being an old school ARPG made with passion by its creators.
All of this is going to slowly change.

It would be cool to know exactly what cut of supporter pack revenue Tencent gets out of this deal. Sadly probably not something GGG can disclose.

Since it is worded as a slice of profit the varying development costs would constantly shit the amounts.

I mean ARE GGG going to make a profit for 6 month after this announcement?

I was just considering this.

The funny thing is I don't really distrust Tencent because i don't know them as a company. On the other hand, I know they have a LOT of money.

For Chris to sell his dream, he must now also have a LOT of money.

I bought supporter packs for the money to go to the devs of this Indie game I love, not to some mega-billionaire company.

Regardless of nothing changes, I don't see myself buying supporter packs anymore. In my head all I hear is "what's the point, they already got/are getting paid?"

It's a stupid way to look at it, but for some reason I can't shake the thought process.

It's like supporting a local deli... but then the guy tells you actually we're owned by Wal-Mart. For some damn reason it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I don't want glorified Wal-mart sandwiches anymore.

I know I'm weird.

The contrary of this is the obvious: If other people feel this way and support less, what happens when Tencent is desperate to make money? Can and will they shut it down? Will they change it to the P2W circus that the Chinese version of the game is?

Jeez I feel so torn.

I feel somewhat the same...
... nothing
well, if you see a good MTX buy it. if the league is interesting buy supporter packs(which must be way cheaper than now tho) Don't support the game because you want to support the devs, We'll buy some stuff we like from the game now instead of "supporting." This is the healthy approach too.

Sad, sad day.

It was a great run and the only company i have spent over $500 on.

I will not spend any more money on this company till they can reassure me somehow this is not going to be a p2w or cash cow for Tencent.

Very, Very Sad day.

I wish i knew about this a week earlier i just bought a Supported (tencent) pack.

PoE international realm won't be a P2W anytime soon, but there will be a lot of "changes" in many areas which players won't know or notice but still influencing the game in great degree.

In addition, the 3 core member of GGG will now be working for Tencent probably on the basis of performance (+ basic CEO or whatever base salary + the 20% share), in addition to them now being super wealthy as an individual.

PoE will change but players won't notice because "The way forward" has gone amd now Tencent GGG is guiding a new way, which might become successful yet we no longer able to witness the GGG's PoE ever again.

Fortnite and awesome PvE? You called that boring PvE Grindfest awesome? wow your standards are low dude.. Fortnite started the Battle Royale shit before Tencent even invested into the game. Fortnite Battle Royale STARTED September 26th 2017 and Tencent invested into Fortnite in March/April 2018. So Stop talking shit dude.

Same for all the "Tencent ruined League of Legends" whiners... Riot started the cashgrab Bullshit waaaaay before Tencent bought the game.
