People deeply distrusting Tencent because the Chinese market is literal nightmare fuel and Tencent is one of, if not the largest single driving factor in the Chinese market isn't them demanding GGG do something different with their money. It's people saying "I can't support a company that's basically a front for Tencent because Tencent is run by and primarily composed of Mind Flayers rather than people".

If Grinding Gear can stay the course and prove they're not bought-and-paid-for Flayer spawn, folks might come back. But however comfortable I was with GGG prior to this announcement, I'm a lot less comfortable now, even if Tencent is mostly just interested in turning the Chinese version of the game into another one of their thinly disguised slot-machine online gambling apps. I don't know how long it'll be before they either insist on making the same changes to the international game, or start demanding that Grinding Gear prioritize the version that makes all the Chinese money.

Until I know those things? Future purchases will be weighed with a grain of salt, specifically because I have no say in where it goes once it's spent and I don't know if I want to spend it on Tencent instead of Grinding Gear.

You should be concerned. I recently posted in a thread on here about worst things that could happen to this game: they get bought out by a big corp.

Naturally, you all are the experts and told me "that will never happen", "that can't happen", "they would never do that!" etc.

GGG should really do a Q and A for this consider it is maybe the biggest news to ever hit POE.

C0nsole was bigger and largely ruined game with all decisions filtered through console controls/lens and connectivity. Thus we have all these channeling skills and CoC dead. pretending GGG is not like any other company - Make money - is only setting yourself up for disappointments.

This news isn't nearly as big as ppl are saying. Tencent already do w.e they want to the Chinese version, which is all they care about. The reason this is news at all is b/c of what some in this thread and others mention in terms of support pack purchase psychology.

This isn't alpha or beta anymore. No one should be (or should have been for the last 4+ years) supporting GGG for what they might do in the future. Wait and see if Tencent has some big impact. If they do, speak with your wallet.
