Chop Finale .... ROLL DAY~
I liked the part where all 12 exalted missed. Chris has said repeatedly it is rare because it is really powerful, well, not so much apparently. Don't get me wrong, when he rolled 1500 times and didn't get anything better than his current items, that was wrong too. This upset me and it wasn't even my currency, if it were that would have been the end of the game for me. Hopefully this gets fixed before open beta so its not a "What could have been"

I actually speculated about the rates in another thread, and it would seem it works pretty much the way I thought. Every reroll is just simply that, a reroll that considers nothing but the ilevel using the very same formula that is used to roll a rare drop. This is also why I think it's a fools errand to start off with a high socket linked base and hoping to reroll the mods. It will take incredible luck or ungodly amount of orbs to reroll into a truly end game rare. Start with a rare with really good mods, then max it out with exalted ( and expect nothing good of em, it's all bonus ). Then go jewelers -> fusings -> chroms, where the only expensive step is the fusings currently.

i havent went back and counted etc, dont really feel up to doing so, but...
archmage, mage, warlock mods (sd/mana) seem way more likely to roll over the other mods. professors (40% pure) were very very few and far between. occultist (50% pure) even fewer. incanters (60% pure) i dont think i got 1 of these solo in all 1500 rolls. i did however get quite a few cruel ( equal ed to incanter mod) so maybe i just rolled heavy on the ed side, but still seems wicked low. i expected it to go this way, even with 1500 rolls i knew was a small chance of rolling a good wand. its why i both never did it while playing and did it now to quit. come release you will only use orbs to trade for mediocre gear. people will soon realise like i did that items is where the value is at. the exception being mirror. there was a reason i switched from massing exalteds to 5L non hybrid chests and 150+ed weapons etc about 4-5 weeks ago, and people will catch on in open / release also. its a hard thing to balance. thousands and thousands of players all rolling multiple times per day trying for godly rolls. they cant be easy and they cant be impossible. ggg will find a sweet spot sooner or later. i provide as much feedback as i can, its not my job to figure out the answer ..... unless you're hiring ^^ IGN: @Chopatron

" ive been using that very same logic on gold ring / necks for quite some time. mass roll with alchs any % and fix the few good rolls with worthless blessed orbs. i would use same logic up to 5L, but not 6L, i would 100% chaos roll 6L. my feedback on linking ... 5x 5L volls w/o a 6l ... did not count fusings, guess is over 500. This is pretty crazy. the fact that you got nothing really of value excepting the fury oak imo. And even that wand isn't epic, just good.

" Yeah, I've been doing the same with rings & amus :) I think fusings have the same ratio as jewelers ( or at the very least they seem to be fairly close ). Jewelers have confirmed 5 5 slots in 306 rolls, & 1 6 slot in just as many. If that is true you've been unlucky ( although not unreasonably so ). Fusings is at about 0.75 chaos in current economy if I'm not misstaken, that's 2000 fusings for the orbs you used. If the above ratio is true could've fused almost 7 6 links. Although as your 1500 chaos represents such a large part of the current economy it would probably be hard to even buy that many fusings without seriously affecting the economy :P |

Good work, Chopatron - that was very interesting!
We have a few minor changes coming to item generation (rares will roll better than they currently do), but the overall result is very representative of how we have designed the item system to work. Tweaks will of course be made over time, though. Currency items are not meant to spit out godly rares each time they're used. Being able to accumulate 1000 Chaos Orbs and have a good chance at multiple amazing rares would be completely catastrophic for our economy in the long term. With regard to the Exalted Orbs, they are extremely powerful because in a game without them, there is no way to add additional mods to an item. They represent a way to make an item strictly better than the previous version (ignoring the psychological issue of people feeling that irrelevant mods or unlucky rolls of good mods make it worse than it was before). Like every other currency item, they represent opportunity. If they always added exactly the mod you wanted, our economy would be saturated with perfect items in a matter of days upon release. We do a lot of simulations to make sure that our item system can handle years of play. We feel that it's much nicer to play in a game where there are still better items to get (by a few percent) than one where you've maxed everything out and have nothing else to find. Edit: It's worth noting that when we read this post, multiple developers commented that you got a good haul of decent items with those orbs. Edit2: Also note that the chance of getting increased physical damage on wands is lower than other weapons because there are a lot more mods in the pool for wands. " I'm sorry but it is flawed. In a game like diablo, where new content comes every leap years at best, yeah, I can see that being true. In your case though, you said that you are gonna implement new content as the game go on and thus, I don't think you should be that concerned about someone getting godly gear in a year of play since new content should make that gear not nearly as good as it used to. |

" Our goal is that people's items (that represent a lot of hard work) don't become worthless whenever we add new content. I was playing an MMORPG a few years ago. I spent a fair amount of time getting some pretty decent items. When the expansion came out, those items were completely inferior to simple quest rewards given in the starting area of the new content. That did not feel good to me as a player. |
