New Shaper/Elder mods are actually great for game's economy/health
" This mace is EXTREMELY hard to get. And it only gives you the 7L. While nice, you absolutely have to dual wield, and aside from the 7L it gives you not much else. Also, these gems are level ~16, and one of them is Increased AoE which doesn't give you much in terms of DPS. They also have no quality. So this is at best ~5.5 link (as reddit seems to call them). You'll get far better DPS from proper 6L in your chest slot, unless you really want to have Kaom's there. Then, The Surrender and 5% on block. If you do quick math, you'll know that to have the level of Life Gain on Block similar to The Surrender, you need 5k hp. Keep in mind that 5$ is max roll, where 3% is the minimum (You need 8330 hp to be at Surrender level with 3%, and at 4% you need 6250). The Surrender also has a few more stats (aside from being 30% block shield with +1500 armor on block). Having a 5% on block is a good alternative to builds who wants to use The Surrender in the future, but don't quite have them yet. Also, if you roll a insane rare you have an option to upgrade it. The Surrender is hard to get, great rare shield that is better than the Surrender is even harder to get. A 5% on block shield (and not much else) is easy to get. Which is exactly what was needed to fill the gaps in front and in the back of The Surrender. Fortify on stun isn't that great, when you think about it. It may be ok for trash (for which you don't really need Fortify to begin with), but you're unlikely to stun bosses. Which is where you need your Fortify. So its not really that great. EDIT:https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/7l2hiv/elder_crit_armour_3/ People are actually using rares chests, who knew. Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. Last edited by Perq#4049 on Dec 21, 2017, 3:46:05 AM

I'm pretty sure Aegis Aurora can recover more than either of those, even if it's ES and not life. You only need to have 12500 armour to meet the value of The Surrender and it's a lot easier to scale Armour than Life or ES (60k Armour: Easy with the right gear. 24k ES? Quite difficult, perhaps barely possible; 24k Life? Yeah, right).
I think getting both Life and Mana on block can be relevant if you play MoM, but it still doesn't reach the level of recovery you can get with Aegis Aurora. All of these can be scaled with an increased recovery mod on Belts (up to 20% with max roll), though it's not possible to get both Mana and Life on belts as it is on shields. The item you posted is a 7 Link, so I was wrong with my hypothesis of that being impossible, but it's certainly very rare, and not useful if you get it on weapons, because there you'd rather get the added damage mods we discussed earlier. As such, it doesn't seem to provide a considerable bonus over 7L 2H weapons. I've configured a search that should find 7L or pseudo 7L (with added crit chance to socketed gems) helmets, but so far, not a single one as shown up. At the time I bought it, my helmet was the only 6L with the good mine support (Helmets that don't "Place an additional Mine" aren't worth considering as an option at this point). I've also looked into shaped amulets, but then I remembered Presence of Chayula and spent all my currency on that. There is undeniable potential for powercreep but it's very, very, very slow. And right now I can't even find an unshaped shield with resists and spell crit that has 50 ES more than mine and doesn't cost 5 ex (I paid less than 10c for mine). "OP" shaped items won't take that much less time and effort than mirror tier items, that also aren't exactly balanced nor the foundation of balance of the game. All in all I don't see the shaped and elder items as critical, but they do a lot to improve versatility and help people to get over the currency wall that used to separate them from endgame. Of course we have to work ourselves through a much larger and weirder atlas now, but that's a different topic. I really like the fact that we have build enabling items that we don't even imagine, rather than having a set of uniques that experienced players know and inexperienced don't, with a subset of them being completely inavailable to most players. |

" Sorry but I had to comment on this... ONLY 7L? Are we playing the same PoE? Where 5L are the norm for us filthy casuals and 6L - apart from Tabula , which btw is a great item that provides you with literally nothing else - is the goal? I guess, probably not... Imho, noone can honestly deny the powerLEAP in 3.1. Those items are simply in another league. Not every player will have access to them, granted; but they're here to stay, and the ones we are seeing are only the firsts of many. Good thing or bad thing? Time will tell... " You are vastly overestimating the power of said 7link. The links are melee based. What are you gonna do with that weapon? Put it in your offhand maybe and let it act as a 7link. That kinda puts you on less skills already. And is it really that much better then having a normal 6link with proper links and 20/20 gems and actually using an offhand that adds power? You kinda have to ask all these questions before you start getting your pitchfork out. |

" Well first of all I'm not going to start any pitchfork, sorry if I made it seem so, just saying smtg. English is not my native language and sometime it's hard to clearly express myself. Second, ok it's not a strong 7L - no 20/20 gems for 4 out of 7 sockets, etc. - but it's in a 1H weapon. Just think about that. Who would seriously thought we'd ever see smtg like this in PoE before 3.1 hit? I didn't... So I don't think I'm vastly overestimating the power a nice 7L gives, no ( although I don't own one, so maybe I am wrong) ...granted some builds will use that power better than others "Metas rotate all the time, eventually the developers will buff melee"
