Detonate Dead works very well with them.

For once I'm not having that much trouble with the nasty rare mobs du jour. Once I drop a frost bomb and all 4 of my frostbolt totems stop picking on the small fry, even the abyss rares melt in a few seconds.

Here is what you do - you clear everything but them. When they disappear the game thinks they are killed and the trove pops up. Sometimes I have 3 rare ones following me around. There was a trope for this I think?
