[3.0] Death Alpha Hunter – Death’s Oath + The Scourge!

Hey everyone!
This is a build that I’ve been tinkering around with after creating my Death Whisperer – Occultist build. This build optimizes the damage from Death’s Oath to use Minion Damage in addition to the regular damage increasing mechanics. The claw which allows Minion Damage to apply to us also occasionally summon Spirit Wolves, while their damage isn’t really that impressive, using the Necromancers’ Beacon of Corruption they become deadly ticking time bombs just waiting to explode in a blaze of!... Er a caustic cloud >.>

Build Mechanics

For this build to work you need to equip Death’s Oath, Astral Plate and as well as The Scourge, Terror Claw

I currently have both my Flame Golem and Animated Guardian linked in my gloves.
I currently have Flesh Offering, Rallying Cry and Convocation linked to Increased Duration in my boots.
Items for the Animated Guardian must consist of at least Leer Cast, Dying Breath and Victario's Flight. Chest armor and Gloves are whatever you think he/she is lacking, or that you have laying around though with minion health and minion nodes I haven't had him(or her) die on me yet.

I have trouble in reviewing this build for a number of reasons, none which would prevent the build from being added individually but together give cause for concern.

I decided to create your build in Path of Building for testing purposes, using the gear and skilltree / gems you indicated. Peak damage with your level 99 build maxes out at roughly 15~18k DPS. In your video, you claimed you had quite a few damage nodes to go for damage improvement, however your level 5 Peninsula which you did not show map mod rolls on took nearly five minutes. The damage scaling really isn't here.

Map mods such as hexproof, less/no regen, monster max life, any added monster damage/crit, monster chaos res, monster attacks chain (oddly enough) all seem like they would be lethal to the build.

The minion instability wolves seem like a cute idea, but the investment into their damage source + death's oath seems like it's over-reaching somewhat.

The build guide does not describe in any detail how you gear your animate guardian, nor the importance of it for death's oath damage.

As the build currently stands, I see no evidence that it can reach mid-yellow or even red maps. I would like to see it tackle some tier 7-8 content successfully before adding it as a completed build, as WIP builds typically are not added.

Thanks for the update Kwitch! Currently in the process of fleshing out a few other builds but I will get back to this one. Just recently got the character it was used on to level 80 but the overall build needs a few adjustments to make it stand out.
have you thought about maybe using 3 chaos golems using the anima stone?

Seeing as how they do cast a chaos degen aura which should stack with death aura, at least for that one skill they would share the same support gems.

That's a rather interesting idea, I'll be honest I've never used a chaos golem ever. At most the build would have 2 golems though but it's definitely an interesting idea to try out if I ever get enough to afford an anima stone. I did level up to 62 using 3 fire golems (2 clayshapers) but went back down to one fire golem after putting on Death's oath and the Scourge claw.
Do you know if chaos/dot from passives and such affect the golem?
only minion damage affects the chaos golem abilities, but with the scourge you can benefit from minion damage as well, so its worth stacking.
