What happened to GGG?

Which, to be honest, is the worst way a game should expect its players to learn.

A GOOD game teaches its players how to play it, as they play.

A MEDIOCRE game teaches its players how to play it, interrupting play to do so.

A BAD game assumes players will find a way to learn to play it without its help.

Sure, the blinded white-knight fans will love to go "Hey, if you wanna be a REAL FAN like me, you gotta blindly grope about until you figure things out!" But most newcomers will get bored soon enough, as this process gets repetitive with no indication when it's close to the end.

Why else does each new league see PoE surge to the top in popularity (nearing 100k simultaneous players) yet then drop off each league, even when it's a GOOD league like Breach or Legacy? Sure, there's a tiny handful that race to the top in under a week no matter how many speed bumps GGG broadly throws in EVERYONE'S way, but for the new players, it's that they get bored of trying to figure their way through the game.

The "Tutorial" (more of an FAQ) is a mild step in the right direction; it upgrades some more basic elements from "bad" to "mediocre."

Nobody asked for any of it, mate. The awful changes were made due to ggg's kneejerk reaction to Contrax doing the fastest ever 100 in Legacy. It was a 2 man team of Necro support (now nerfed) and Vaal Fireball (now nerfed), in Legacy league (now nonexistant), running Shaped Shores (now nerfed) and best possible leaguestones (now nonexistant), and that was the usual minmaxed setup and scenario that 99,999% of players will NEVER achieve.

They balanced the game around an extreme scenario and around things that are not even part of the game anymore. GGG simply dont know what they're doing when it comes to balancing.

Harbinger league was no suprise. It has always been the rule of thumb that a major release is accompanied by a crappy league.
But I don't see anything great here. The art and desing certainly looks cool, but the rest is such a rushed out piece of work I wonder what they actually did with their time. There are reoccurring bugs that no one who would look on their code twice should miss.

Moreover, the ONLY thing Chris/GGG in general has been consistent in saying they have as a balance goal is "slowing players down."

Apparently, they liked Diablo 2 in college, but not enough to remember that par for 1-99 in there was 24 hours.

Um, Warbands League (2.0.0 HC) would like to have a word with you. Was crazy (killing bosses for you) AND rewarding. (6Ls falling out of the sky, anyone?) Also, Nemesis (1.0.0 HC) and Perandus (2.2.0/Ascension) weren't shabby either.

Given that the idea for challenge leagues comes up independently, I don't think they can use such an excuse for a poor league, really.

To be honest, they promised FAR too much, too quickly. They lost six weeks because of a database-related bug on the new MTX/HO stash system, for one. Their timetable assumed they'd not experience any delays due to large bugs, being far too optimistic.

And overall, their plan seemed to go from "a mild retweaking to make Cruel not 100% the same" to "what the hell, let's ACTUALLY make Acts 6-10 new content, just reusing existing zones."

It also didn't help that, for all appearances, the "beta" was really just a "sneak peek" used as an excuse to make money selling beta keys/supporter packs. A vast swath of the bugs noted in the 3.0.0 release WERE reported during the beta, but were never addressed... Or often even acknowledged.

And this is why you shouldn't talk stuff without thinking first.

If you have a problem, you have to signal it to GGG first, as that actually counts as feedback. Then if it goes unresolved for an unsatisfactory amount of time, you should move on.

But if you became invested, and became a regular PoE "addict", you will tolerate their "goofs" and hope that you'll end up experiencing ultimately PoE as the "best" ARPG experience, even if it's going to take a few more years to reach that point...

As long as the game still feels "fun", GGG will have my support, but they should actually tackle performance, QoL and balance tasks a whole lot better from now on - they finished the story, for good or worse, they reached their goal of having PoE with one "progressive" difficulty - so it's time to "up their game" on all the other fronts, as they have no further excuse for neglecting them...

PSS: Our almighty TencentGGG overlords are very scrupulous regarding criticizing their abilities to take proper decisions and consider everything "needlessly harsh and condescending"...

Good to know "free speech" doesn't apply in any form or manner on the forums these days...
OK then. If some whinig brat can complain because game doesnt work good on his pc, then i can say something different.

1. This game has NEVER worked so well on my PC. I have some lag spikes in towns but that doesnt bother me at all. Locations are smooth as babys ass. Also i had some technical problems before, during breach and legacy, but now? PoE runs so well and smooth i couldnt belive. Also i was very concerned about performance, my PC has 7 years (Phenom x2@x4 $GB ram 5770 1GB vram win 7 32 bit so im not using all of 4GB ram), but hell - i am very very happy about how it works.

2. Builds. I play this since there was anly 2 and half acts. Act 3 was ending on doors to solaris temple. I faced many different cases and problems - synch was very annoying. My first char was duelist dual strike but runnig after small mobs was annoying and also hitting targets hitting then synch and im almost dead. So i went into AoE. Ice Nova scion - i just love this char - reached 77 lvl and i was able do 5 tier maps. And it was loooong time ago, also i played on even worse PC. I remembem i had to ask people to help me with Dominus because pc in that time just crashed and i was not able to kill him. It was different PC than current one but both existed at the same time (i was living in different country and my brother had even older PC).

3. I started to learn about PoE. I started to read about mechanics and the rest of that "crap" that people dont want spent their time on it (and prefer to complain instead - just look at the forum). I found skill i just LOVE and im sticking with since there (BV variations). Also when SSF was introduced i play only this.

So. My experience shows ONLY improvements. Does this makes me "white knight"? Or maby complaining brats are just that - complaining, lazy brats that have demands but dont offer anything in exchange? When was the last time any of them thanked GGG for great game they give for free and DID NOT MADE IT pay to win?

Shall i go on?

Also THEY JUST FINISHED a BIG PART of that game. Give them time to rest ffs!

I mentioned this in another thread recently, but remember when Blizzard didn't suck and they were famous for the statement "Done when it's done?"

If you're going to admire D2, at least emulate the behaviors which led to its greatness.

And if you're not going to do that, then don't sell beta keys at all. It leads to really bad PR, because it makes you appear to be money-grubbing just as ACGIFT describes.

what settings do you play on? i have a very similar setup with an unlocked phenom and the game regularly looks like crap, i had to swap to dx11 since 9 performed a lot worse then it used to. Now i switch between 30-60 fps constantly due to shadows and regularly go into pixel mode.
