The real reason Evasion isn't viable

Blind is so ridiculous. By the wiki's formula, even if you had a 5% evasion chance (like after taking Iron Reflexes), inflicting blind on an enemy would result in a 76% evasion chance. And yes, it does work on bosses. I may never take Unwavering Stance again.

Its not about whether you can blind more than one mob (you can - blind is my main support for cleave), its about that 2 brutuses will tear you a new one before you can even proc the 11% blind chance with 2AS per second .

These things all work. The key point is that you need far more than JUST life/defense rating/resist.

Or you can just play ele bow clearing whole rooms with LA from 1 screen away , while sporting 6k HP and capped resists doing more dps than your best melee phys build ever can dream of .FROM RANGE

or you can play FP templar/marauder/witch and clear whole rooms again albeit from slightly less safe distance but permafreezeing mobs in the process so they cant even make 2 steps before they dead

Only 2 attacks per second? It's not that hard to reach 4 attacks per second, and in the meantime you can pop a granite flask and maybe immortal call.

People keep saying Charge attacks can't be evaded, but this does not jive with my experience. I've personally seen my character do the "hitstun dodge" animation in response to a charge hitting me, and taken no damage. In fact, this happens to me quite frequently.

That's because you're using a shield. You can block a charge, and if the damage would have stunned you if it had hit, you go through a "shield block stun" animation, despite not taking damage.

Also, acrobatics can save you from charges, I think.
Evasion is fine

No build is a one trick pony. Normal was hard till I had access to a variety of skill gems and learned to change tactics on the fly.

Melee lvl50 HC. No comment on higher levels yet, died a handful of times before I changed my build to what it is now and this is the highest so far.

Up to lvl 50 evasion is fine so far. Only see it getting stronger at higher levels.

Except every Lightnng Arrow/Chain/Lagfest build, every Lightning Strike build, and every Freezing Pulse/Ice Spear build.

As far as evasion goes, I boil it down to this:

Due to armor's lackluster performance vs big physical damage (i.e., a good amount of merciless), a chance to evade is good to balance if you're melee and tend to get hit a lot with physical damage. This is necessarily, indeed, a fault of Armor and its scaling curve, which should be adjusted.

If you're ranged and rolling areas with LA or Freeze or Totems or Minions, and with carefulness you rarely take physical damage, evasion is still good to have, again due to armor being so unrefined. Along with Arrow Dodging, it can still shine here as well.

Furthermore I would advocate the usage of the Blind support gem. It turns a 35% chance to evade into an 85% chance to evade. Now, that shit's better than armour. Whether it's applied to groups with an AoE attack, or applied to a boss with a fast single-target attack, it's an invaluable gem.

It only gets weaker and weaker. for same eva rating you get less and less evade chance. At lv 80 you wont be able to break 40% evade chance without GODLIKE gear. at lvl 50 I had 50% evade chance. at 75 -28% with same gear

Hold on.

This is a very limited view of diminishing returns. Same exact statement could be made of armour, even with 9 endurance charges. When you have 70% reduction, it takes about 10x more rating to gain your next 1%. And yet, it should be widely accepted by now that endurance charges grant increasing returns against armour rating.

Must think about returns on effective healing, rather than returns on percent chance to evade.

They still diminish, but much more slowly than you might think. Rating systems should diminish, it's responsible design. Armour is strange.

Not sure what you trying to say

block and endurance charges - have no diminishing returns. Endurance charges always mitigate by same % .it scales linearly with each endurance charge. Block also scales linearly up to cap (75% I believe)

Armour -has diminishing returns because it mitigates less % of bigger hits as game progresses. Its still not entirely horrid because granite flaks of iron skin give stupid amount of armour

Evasion - at first look on paper it looks like block. In practice your evade chances for same evasion rating gets lower and lower as far as your levels and enemies levels go up. It has no "flasks of evasion" - just of reflex suffix which is only mildly effective

Evasion is worst defence stat if taken alone. It does stack pretty nicely with block and armour though as long as its taken from grace/base and not invested in gear wise
