The real reason Evasion isn't viable

"What? I cant dodge 85% of the incoming attacks? evasion sux"

Just saying this in case some newbie thinks the OP has some good insight or something.

OP has a very valid point. I have a duelist (evasion/armor) and a marauder (full armor). I pwn with marauder, the duelist is terrible.

Also, OP, Resolute Technique (your hits cannot be evaded) keystone passive. Not sure if mobs have it but players DO have it and this would be a concern in pvp.

Just to show you how dumb you are, I can easily do that with armor and resist + shield block. Actually 85% is rather small. With aura's/legendary items I am more around 99% for everything except chaos.

But this was not the point. The point was whatever evasion he has (be it 85% or 40%) it can be COMPLETELY ignored by certain common skills.
I think the easier way to put it is to just say mitigation in this game is utter crap.

And that needs a fix. Hopefully soon. It makes the game one dimensional and boring.

Vaal Constructs fire projectiles that can be dodged.
Leap Slam has an accuracy component and can be dodged.
Projectile Weakness is a curse, run it off.
EK is a spell and Bear Trap, you literally walked right into.
Shield Charge can be dodged.

There's more to evasion than "the number in my toon window is really high," FYI.

So essentially you need 1-2 keystone passives (dodge) to make evasion work. Thank you for confirming evasion is broken.

Traps are dropped on top of you by mobs (as well as players in pvp) - you were probably unaware that given your attitude). It's not something you "walk into".

Regarding shield charge... how do you doge 30 incoming mobs who keep spamming the skill? You know it happens.
But the issue here is that one cannot cancel ongoing actions in this game in order to move. It is unrealistic and dumb but caused, like the desync issues, by their very weak networking codes.

These abilities deal Physical(+Chaos) damage, and cannot be evaded. At all. Projectile Weakness reduces your evasion to pretty much 0.

Evasion is the only defense in the game that is COMPLETELY NEGATED by several different abilities. ES gets countered by Chaos, but you can stack Chaos resistance or invest in CI. Armour gets countered by elemental-based attacks, but you can stack elemental resistances. There is no option for Evasion to prevent being countered by these abilities, except stacking more Armour. If that's your best option, why wouldn't you just wear Armour from the getgo?

Armour is also countered by chaos, and you can stack chaos resistance and invest in CI while using evasion too. Also you can stack elemental resistances while using evasion.

Your arguments are not valid
I've been experimenting with an evasion/acrobatics ranger with shield and fast sword. At times its been really rough, but now with some upgraded equipment and a small necessary respec from mana to extra resistances and hp I am steamrolling act 3 cruel with no problems. I don't know how merciless will be (this is my highest level character) but presumably as long as I can keep my equipment updated I don't foresee any problems.

All the enemies that go through evasion just require a change in tactics and if that's not enough then they're a good sign you're due for an equipment/hp upgrade.
evasion and armor are good if u take small hits, when u take big hits ur armour absorbs nearly nothing, ur evasion absorbs nothing.
the only thing why i use armour is, that wehn i take a big hit armour helps a litte bit.
Armor helps only if you stack it and support it with endurance charges. The people who say armor sucks are 2h users. With a granite flask and enfeeble, I can face tank dual brutus.

Any attack that is only partially physical.

These things together are far more frequent than the evasion nullifying mechanics that the OP is complaining about here.
That's the conclusion I've made. I switched from 16,000 armour with Iron Reflexes to 8400 evasion 1200 armour with Arrow Dodging and I'm far, far more survivable than I was before. Negating ranged and elemental enemies is huge.

I think that hybrid evasion builds have the most potential, but only once you've got enough evasion to max out arrow dodging while still getting enough of your other defensive stat.
