I fear that stuff like Ring of Blades will water down Sire of Shard

I think theyre just making EK the exception here but i do agree, especially after that stupid reddit thread ASKING for a Nova support gem.

It fits EK because its such an old skill, not to mention no inherent piercing or anything, also we dont have any Nova-like physical spells and they probably couldnt think of one even if they wanted to, soo they just made a threshold jewel for EK.

I just hope thresholds dont end up being the end-all-be-all because based on what ive seen, no downsides to the new ones, they basically all enhance the mechanics of every skill marginally.

I wouldn't say no downsides - they cost you some points on the skill tree, and in the case of the EK jewel, that's dexterity which...muddies things a bit if you wanted to go witch templar or marauder.

Downside is bigger than you think. You could use some GG jewel instead of it that gives you a lot of stats.

Im really sad that Sire didnt get a buff on 2.6

its a staff, and hence will always be bad imo. Its a cool idea, but its a staff so ill never use it because that means you have a garbage build that neither has the damage of dual wield 1h caster weapons nor the defenses of a shield.

the jewels are the way forward.

I dont see the jewels are no downside, I wouldnt even use the ek jewel on my ek build, but I might make a new ek build for it.

Eh dunno about watering down. That thing is barely 3c man.

I'm not too concerned about Nova Jewels making SoS less notable.

Especially since, I like to use both for a ton of extra projectiles (Since both sources of Novafication include extra projectiles, which stacks). Which actually might become itself, notable given the nerfs to Pierce.

For example, Ethereal Knives will be less good now that they won't Pierce through everything when given 100% pierce since its changed away from chance to apply into number of applications. So more projectiles would be how you'd increase its effectiveness at clearing packs. As such RoB + SoS would be a nifty combo.

Since it's not like every projectile spell will be getting Nova jewels anyway, so I can still do stuff like Incinerate + CWC + Magma Orb + Fireball and get 3x Nova's going, while still being able to use Rolling Flames and Inevitability for my jewels.
