When europeans talk about the ACA it makes you wonder how much they actually know about it versus how much "news" shows and websites work them up about it. health insurance is in the USA is subpar on average for people who don't get it through their jobs, something needs to be changed, the ACA will implode on itself in time if nothing changes. premiums keep rising, deductables are huge. It works for some people but a lot of people literally cannot afford it. When you look into all the nuances of it like... is coverage actually "coverage" if your deductible is so high that you're basically paying OOP for everything? It's really complicated. It's just insane. I hope Trumpcare takes a different direction, if it in the finalized version is ObamacareLite it will fail too

Luckily I was insured all this year and did not have to pay a tax penalty when I filed my taxes on Monday night. I escape the nightmare because of the company I work for, but my GF and some of my family members aren't happy with their choices when it comes to the ACA.

It's like pay a lot for poor coverage, so you can say your covered.... or be insured and take the tax penalty for not having it.

I dunno which Europeans you have been talking to. But this European and every other I have spoken to agree with everything you just said, after the first sentence. The only people who seem uninformed and mislead are the polarised Americans with either 'liberal' or 'conservative' blinkers on. That isn't all Americans, but enough to support doomed from the start bills from either side. And to obstruct ideas that may not be so doomed, because corruption.

Put it this way, if the best you can release is 2 pages which show you paid 25% tax (while also writing off $100,000,000) in a single year which happens to be the year your wife has to show a tax return to confirm citizenship application: That's without doubt the very best return you can show.

If you were taken in by this, I feel for you. If you are just using this because 'yey Trump' and 'fuck anything non-Trump', I can't feel anything for you.

They are using incomparable data from different year. That tax return is in 2005 during Bush administration. It is pretty normal. Tax return for the rich is probably higher that year. Taxes is bought down by the Bush administration subsequently. If 25% is the normal rate for the rich, and we assume everyone pay their taxes, Obama or Bernie would probably have paid normal taxes. Then again we need their tax return for that year to prove conclusively that they do. Since Trump decided he doesn't need to show his tax returns, Why does any of the politician need to? They probably don't.
