Map diversity sucks hard without trading

I wouldn't mind enhanced drop tables for SSF in exchange for no transfers.

i.e. completely self-contained league

bad idea

SSF and the normal game need to have the same rules

(aside from the trade/party thing) lol
I dont see any any key!

There are tons of options to fix the Atlas.

There is nothing to "fix".

You just don't want to make actual choices, you want your choices to have no impact so that you can go back to whatever if you mess it up.
No, just no.

Some people proved you wrong alreadu.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Why?

One of (if not the biggest) reasons SSF cannot have better drops is because of the ability to move back to a normal league and the need to prevent abnormal market disruption. Remove transfers and that worry disappears, making it possible to do what the OP wants in a manner that's fair for all.

Because GGG do not want to give incentive to go SSF.
They want people to participate to the economy, they only added SSF because the community already was there.
Which is exactly why they won't make it easier, and definitely won't remove the ability to transfer back to playing the game the intended way.

I'm playing SSF, and I want to play the actual game, not some easier version, as frustrating as it might be in some cases.

I wrote a thread about some serious issues with self found play a while back. One of them is what made me quit playing last league on day three. This is that issue, and it's still super awful.

Unlocking new maps to progress in the Atlas is neat. You play the map, kill the boss, and can now have the next map drop. If you played the right version of the map, you also get the Atlas bonus. I like this, but it does have the obvious problem of shutting down progression for builds that can't handle certain bosses.

The problem is getting the map to drop so you can run it in the first damn place. For example, Armoury unlocks Arena, but trades in for Atoll. This means that you have to play your Armoury maps in order to unlock Arena. I've done this countless times already, yet I have not had a single Arena map drop. Quay into Underground River is another of these, where I've probably killed dozens of that annoying boss without getting the right map to drop. I have a fat stack of tier 11s from running them, at least, for what little that's worth.

Eventually either things drop or I save up enough maps to trade in if there's a route to even do that in the first place. I just have to grind maps I don't want to run in the first place over and over and over again until it happens. It took me forever to finally get Tropical Island to drop. That's my favorite map. I've been running them every chance I get, hoping for a Reef. Of course I don't have a Reef. Now I'm saving up to trade in three of a map I want to run every time it drops just to finally unlock another map I want to play.

This sucks. Hard.

I don't like having to buy content. It feels shitty, especially since I'm a self found player. When I transition at some point out of self found late in a league, it's so I can do neat things with my builds that I couldn't with my drops. It's not so I can run a damn tier 9 map I can't get to drop on my own.

Please fix this problem.

You can make it so a boss drops the next map after you kill it a certain number of times if that map isn't unlocked yet (every 3 or so). You can allow maps adjacent to unlocked maps to drop anywhere instead of just in adjacent maps, or at least as long as you achieved the bonus. There are so many more options that don't result in self found players getting fucked, not being able to run the maps they want to run, and having to run maps they don't want to run.

I'm in red maps now. The problem is much worse here due to the lower drop rates of high tier maps. This is ruining the game for me. Zana helped a little earlier. I think she unlocked 2-3 maps. She's not doing shit anymore, though. Now the game just sucks. As a self found player, I can no longer progress through the Atlas without insane amounts of grinding.

This is the regular content of the game, GGG. You don't need to lock this away behind absurd grinding walls like Uber Atziri or unique drop impossibility like The Vinktar Square.

Let me play the damn maps. Please.

And to people out there who really want to rage against self found players, fixing this would also make mapping less annoying for all of you. Don't argue against improvement simply because it also helps people who do something you hate.

It's simply an atlas issue.

Every map is connected to 1-2 higher-tier maps (and 1 is for higher-tier maps). Unexplored maps can drop only if they're connected to the one you're running. There are usually 10+ maps of any given tier (except very high and very low tiers) So, when a map drops, it most probably will be a map you've already completely (odds are 5:1, or even 10+:1). To explore atlas further and progress, you have to drop 5-10 maps of given tier (in average, in practice with sume unluck, you may need 15-25 maps). That's just ridiculous - that's why all players chose to "cheat system" and buy maps. Yes, even SSF players buy maps - from Zana and vendor recipes.

Wait, is that a rent against the map vendor recipe now ???

Oo

...
Smart people that want to unlock most of the atlas efficiently would just unlock most of the maps of one tier at the same time, and fill the rest with the recipe if they don't want to wait.

Fairly simple to solve...

First of all, have Zana missions available from her from the start. She is so vital to enjoying mapping that you shouldn't be at the mercy of her appearing in maps (I went most of the previous league without finding her).

Secondly, have her sell ALL maps up to and including Tier 10 all the time, without only restocking after the daily mission is run. At level 1 she sells Tier 1/2/3, then add a tier for each level she gains.

This would still leave Tier 11+ for random atlas completion, but ensure that players doesn't get stuck.
Meh, I dunno.

Yes, it takes a long time to fill out some holes in your Atlas and when you are already grinding T9 it's boring to go back to try to find that T4 you still miss, and Zana haven't sold you one in like a week... And yes, Zana can be really annoying to find sometimes. (mostly because TP-ing from Lab to Town and back is annoying AF..)

But, being able to easily buy all the maps, either through trade or vendor, is super boring too. If you play SSF you play it for a reason - you don't want to ruin your progression process, by casually pushing your shopping cart through poe.trade isles and cherry picking content. Atlas is about progression, having trade or Zana sell you everything at all times, totally invalidates this.

So, in the end I like it as it is. The current endgame is the easiest than it ever was. You can easily play T11-T13 on SF orbs, which is great. zana inventory already helps you a lot. Eventually you'll fill out the Atlas even in SF. Prob. not to 125% (I still miss a few maps even in Std), but good enough.

A bit off-topic...but this...." I used to exclusively talk to Zana in my hideout. I tried with the new one, but switched to Haku after a day because she's so damn annoying."

I actually took Navali into my HO so I didnt have to listen to the NPC chat from any of them...lol

Another annoyance... the fact that Zana prices every red map in alchs. Not much use in getting chaos or exalt drops if they cant be converted to alchs in order to buy the maps one needs. And considering SSF is now an option that is generally available, this aspect should be tweaked somewhat.
