Add a 5 second logout timer...
Or just add a 5 sec logout timer so we can all make fun of every Logoutcore streamer there is ^_^

Logout timers in online games are bs. Period.

" It's completely the other way around. Without a logout timer there is no "hardcore" league. That stupid alt-f4 core would actually stop being meaningless. Therefore yes to a logout timer but a FAT NOOOO to the 1 hp left bullshit because 1 hp left means full life in the blink of an eye again. " And again, a SC only player judge about HC game experience ... tedious as always. Maybe if you watch on such Threads (even it's a 'cry a lot' one) you maybe imagine why timer in a online game are a total, utterly bullshit, especially in PoE. logout timer OR one-entry-per map (but the timer is better as people might have legit reasons to rapidly drop from the game)
HC community will shrink ofc - some of the cheaters and wannabies will go haunt another game. seeing how popular is the Coward Macro i cannot udnerstand how can anoyone claim it is healthy for the game. it creates an image of 'hardcore game where you can cheat at will because everyone does that' ability to 'log' makes people play glass and pretend they know what they are doing. lab already weed some of these, time for more |

" Next HC opinion of a SC only player. Gz dude. Would have no problem if GGG would forbid all macro shit, dont care. But Alt+F4 will stay important due terchnical issues. Gz for anyone, who had a flawless game experience since 2.4 - many don't. ANd I don't talk 'bout potato playing and ppl with bad ISP. I will talk to any 'Coward-Core' 'Logout/Alt+F4 Core' shouter more intense 'bout this thematic if he has a lv90 HC char in his acc. Never hit level 90 in HC (I play SSF, and quite frankly I'm not that good), but I have spent hundreds or thousands of hours in HC, and I support this idea. And my connection to the servers is not great (though my local internet is rock-solid).
Adding a logout timer will not help the game in any way per se, but it will (finally) empower GGG not to have to balance the game around Alt+F4, and that is a very, very good thing. As an aside, as someone who doesn't abuse Alt+F4, I am annoyed that I and others have to suffer bad balance decisions (e.g., one-shots from monsters) in order to accommodate those who do abuse it. <-- It's cheating, people. Just admit it. If you don't want to lose your ability to cheat using Alt+F4, then quite frankly you have no business playing HC in the first place. Switch to SC, and let the non-cheaters enjoy a properly balanced HC game. Wash your hands, Exile! Last edited by gibbousmoon#4656 on Oct 1, 2016, 8:50:16 PM

Here's how you do logout timers.
1. Imagine a player has a sudden power outage. Design a system to logout players automatically, preserving their characters, if their client is not communicating with server. You want to keep this logout delay as short as possible so players who suffer outages are less likely to lose their characters. Let's say it's 1000ms, aka 1 second; this means if ping ever exceeds 1000ms the game just automatically logs you out. 2. Set a logout timer for player-initiated logouts equal to the timeout (so 1000ms in this case). There's no reason why a player who deliberately disconnects should enjoy any advantage over a player who accidentally disconnects, and there's no point in creating an intentional logout delay longer than accidental, because players can easily spoof accidents. 3. Tune content around a very short, but not quite instant, logout delay. So I'm in favor of a logout delay of about 1 second. Anything in the 500ms to 2 second range I'd find at least borderline acceptable; logging out players during lag spikes can get annoying, so there's room for debate about how big a spike is needed to take action. I'm against the current instant logout, and STAUNCHLY against a 5-second logout delay which would kill many an innocent character. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. " " Well, everyone can have his own rules. Some people don't trade, play 100%ssf, don't play in partys and so on. You can say, 'hey, I play chess only with pawns, to play it other way is pure cheating!' - thats fine if it's work for you, but latest if you lost 100 games in a row, you have to admit the game is designed not that way. To claim something what works as designed as cheating and calling players who do so is just ridicioulus. And I'm fine with ultra HC rules, LogOut timer, delete char after rip, all of that - but not in a online enviroment what can have and have technical issues all the time.
