Sometimes it's worth to pick up every yellow item
" I've played several temp leagues picking up and identifying all good bases from all item categories - weapons, jewellery, armour. I've also played several leagues speedrunning and gradually removing more and more items from the 'identify' group until only vaal regalia, hubris circlets, titanium spirit shields, diamond rings and leather belts remained. At some point I only bothered with the three top ES bases. I also spent some time farming exlusively dominus with IIR/IIQ gear when that was the rage - again identifying everything. I was regularly buying wisdom scrolls, I once bought a thousand of them. I don't know how many rares I've identified but it's probably in the tens of thousands. Either my RNG is atrocious or I consistently have a significantly higher income per hour with speedruns and identifying only a bare minimum of items. I haven't recorded it map-by-map and hour-per-hour but I know that I make, very roughly, twice as much in the course of a week. No need to comment about XP per hour, we all know the highest XP entails not picking up anything at all. About your bank in Standard - you've played for what, years? in a permanent league where you don't lose anything. Of course you'll amass a big amount of currency over time. As far as you enjoy yourself, all is well. I play only temp leagues where you start from zero and the speed at which you acquire levels, gear and currency is much more important - not to mention the HC temp leagues where you also tend to die and lose a ton of stuff. It's actually exactly this from zero to hero process which I enjoy a lot. To each their own :) You have to be realistic about these things. I think years of pessimism has made me migrate more towards unid recipe than id and sell.
Simply put, I find "okay" rares and don't find anything GG. Would I rather take 2 chaos now in small increments or ID everything and hope I get that 1-2 ex sale in a week? Recipe = Small amounts of currency in a consistent increment which doesn't heavily depend on trading. ID and sell = Medium to Large amounts of currency in an inconsistent increment which 100% relies on trading. With the performance issues and other things that have been going on in this game since Ascendancy, I don't trust other players to stick around or be available when I am playing...so this league recipe made more sense to me. I ID'd more stuff last league because people stuck around for "free loot" so I knew I would be able to make sales late into the league. For me it varies. Sometimes I ID and sometimes I recipe. It really depends on the first week of league and how I feel regarding it's potential longevity. In this case, I felt as if Prophecy didn't have enough substance so I went with recipe. Completed 5 builds with decent (B+,A-) gear 3 of which are at level 90 or about to hit it. I don't think it is as cut and dry as "X is better than Y". It's very situational in my experience. Wait, what?
So identifying items relies on trading, but doing UNID recipe doesn't rely on trading? How the fuck do you get gear? Don't you have the two arse-about-face? In fact, the one solid argument for the UNID recipe is that you could use the bonus chaos to buy alchs and alch better ilvl and base jewellery than you used in the recipe. I'm not sure if that still holds out, though, now that socket rolls give 4 alch shards. Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Aug 1, 2016, 5:56:39 PM

" EDIT: Removing nonsense lashback on my part. Yes it depends on trading but not as much. You can also use the chaos to spam your own bases for decent rares. You already know this, however, as you are self-found. So i'm guessing you would ID everything until you got into your 80s then start uniid recipes. Sorry for the outburst. I misunderstood your comment, and I am a little on tilt from some of the responses I'm seeing from other seasoned players. So many people on this board think they know everything and its really fucking annoying. apologies for the rant/rage. Last edited by Prizy#1622 on Aug 1, 2016, 6:02:29 PM

WTF?
Where did that come from? Casually casual.

" I don't know. Between Bars and a lot of other condescending posters on these forums, I might have taken it out on you. I also think I read your "arse" comment incorrectly. |

Maybe.
No biggie. Edit in response to edit: I'll personally never do an UNID recipe, even at 15,000 hours into the league I play, I'll still never do UNID chaos or regal recipe. Every single amulet, belt and ring, no matter the base is worth IDing for me and I expect always will be, bad bases can be vaaled and even useful as they are with good rolls when handpicking upgrades from the drops of thousands and thousands of people is something you'd rather not do. Also weapons and helms on even the worst bases possible that simply can't be good have a high chance of rolling socket mods, no non-jewellery items with rolls that give alch shards (sockets, rarity, chaos) will I use in a chaos/regal recipe. I could be doing an UNID recipe that has a GG belt, 2 GG rings and a GG ammy, even boots, on any base. I could be doing an UNID recipe that has over an alch in shards on the non-jewellery pieces. Those are not worth giving up for 1 re-roll on an item of my choice. Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Aug 1, 2016, 6:52:01 PM

" I spend the majority of my time in leagues, the majority of my wealth comes from leagues. Im pretty certain that I personally would lose money doing unid with the way I play, even in standard where theres ultra rare item saturation. Its not rly in my interest to promote identifying gear so its not a point i rly want to go into. But in short I think its personal, what works for the individual. Theres people in this game who make 20 chaos per day and theres people who make 400 chaos per day, what separates them is not picking up or identifying items. Theres people in both camps who loot, dont loot, id, unid, some dont recipe at all. You dont go from a 20c a day guy to a 400c a day guy because you switch to unid or stop looting rares entirely. You might be promoted to a 30c a day guy, meanwhile a guy making 400c a day might be demoted to 30c a day by following the same advice because how he is making 400c per day is rooted in identifying rares. Maybe he gets his 400c from flipping so he doesnt need to id, makes the change, now hes a 410c a day guy. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" Apparently other people also get really offended when they see that sort of word, even if it is part of a common phrase like 'arse-about-face'. 'AssReacher' and 'Assassin' seem to be OK, but everything else is apparently off limits. I once got a thread locked and my post edited by support because I said somebody was stingy, except I used another word for it that has the word 'ass' as part of it. GGG even told me that I was being 'hateful' for using that word. I won't say what the word was, since I don't want to be hateful (nor discuss specifics of a support decision in public) - but it was a pretty innocuous word. Obviously people are pretty sensitive about it. Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

its preference tbh
if you prefer efficiency, unid is better if you like id your items and are more about items than efficiency, id is better Im the latter. I like id'ing shit. A lot of this game is about loot. And jewelry can get great rolls even in low level areas. and in temp leagues rare jewelry rains (from prophecies, etc) so if you wanna do a ton of chaos recipes, you still can. |
