I suck
-10% exp at your lvl a week progress loss? Dude, what are you grinding, dried lake maybe? Your last month average is LESS than one million exp PER DAY because you keep dying and dying and dying. No offense, but maybe you should reconsider your ultra-tanky build?
But I agree, exp penalty is shit mechanic and does not give anything positive nor valuable to this game. People will always try to avoid unnecessary risks and they rather farm easy maps instead of pushing character to the limits. Because who cares, at the end of the day only exp matters. Harder maps does not give better exp nor better drops. It's just illusion, carrot on the stick. I gain plenty drops from magic maps including maps themselves, then why the fuck I should bother and risk my neck. Heck, even old games had some sort of exp recovery. This stupid penalty needs to go if sooner then better. Bullshit makes the flowers grow

Meh, they should just keep the progression substantially harder from level 95 to 100 so 96 = 2 x 95, 97 = 3 x 96 up till 100 = 10 x 99 and be done with it, and if they are feeling that the players still progress too fast, they can always alter the formula for the last 5 levels (heck, for mega-uber achievers just introduce another 100 levels of "Prestige" based on the same formula so that they can no-life it till they literally die)...
Path of Exile has the cap set at level 100 and if GGG still hasn't considered it, the whole XP penalty on Softcore is becoming a problem if they are also always changing the way that content gives XP. I always supported a harsher enviroment - it's good to have an XP penalty if it's the same on every difficulty of the game to help us n00bs and casual see on Softcore that we f*cked up and should improve (it would help even more to see a combat log too after each death before pressing "ressurect"), but please don't alter the penalty of the XP gained on killing stuff instead of changing the damn formula for leveling progress as it just send the wrong message to players - and we already receive a sh*tload of those thanks to not having balanced content. I also hate the super imposed HC semblance "1 strike and you're out", especially when they weren't paying enough attention to technical problems, and lame excuses for "awareness check" (yes, I'm still p*ssed by the traps and 1 chance to run Uber Labyrith), these would still not make me have more fun as they just kill the fun due to tediousness, and are actually an artificial way to "increase the difficulty" of the content - but hey, at least the "impenetrable golden doors" don't one shot you yet... I'm starting to dislike the loss of the "fun" regarding the progress of your character post level 90 and I sincerely hope that the next update will at least bring the "fun" back, if it's not making the journey more manageable... Oh and having a high level (>90) character today is as much an achievement as reaching 100 as XP progress goes...

" In the time it takes to level a single character to level 95, you can make at least two level 90 characters. In the time it takes to level to level 100, you can make 6-7 level 90 characters. So I largely disagree with you. But after level 85-90 you really shouldn't need more passives to make your build capable of clearing everything. So really the last few levels are just for bragging rights, or if you want to complete your character, etc. That being said, the hardest part about getting to level 100 isn't the level xp penalty, but actually, well, dying. At level 98, a death for me is about 5-6 hours of xp. It used to be 4-5 hours, but you know, they nerfed the xp tables. Which means for me it would take oh, about a week to hit level 99 at about 9 hours a day (I'm definitely not a high clear speed build). And that is farming tier 9-11 maps almost exclusively by the way (tier 12+ are too hard to get, running just gorge/canyon/plateau is far too boring), so not dried lake farming. |

Don't worry, you'll get over it. :v
I've lost countless % for fucking around (not that I care much, as lvling up past 90 is a bonus only). At first you are mad, but then you just focus on other things, like Prophecies, and don't give a fuck. Also, you died because you weren't paying attention. This is pretty fair, isn't it? Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.

" Was discussing the "fun" factor of the ride to 100, after the new XP penalty this is the feeling that is shared by a large part of us n00bs and casuals - I actually leveled to 94 just based on Masters and running up to tier 11 maps also, and I'm not having an opie-op build, so I can understand your point of view, and as @Vhlad said, reaching 100 can be viewed as an achievement if you're not bored to death to do it by running the low level content (yes, I do consider having content up to level 84 actually lower level as I'm pushing 95, and it's even worse for you 98-99'ers)... " Sure, it is about bragging rights, in a way, but sometimes you have builds that are so fun, that you really want to continue playing them past 90. The time from when a build is "finished" (around 70), to you have to reroll (90), is, in my opinion, too short. The problem with the game right now, is that there are no rewards for doing that (except reaching level 100), and that in it self feels more like work. There is a combination of yellow maps only, too slow leveling and with loss of xp that makes the process kinda boring. My argument is that it should be more fun. Hopefully, 2.4 gives better end game content than we have now. The plan is simple: win! If you do not win, you did not follow the plan

" Making me lose all XP acquired that day would have been "pretty fair". There is nothing fair in removing a whole week's worth of experience. That just sends all the wrong messages, like "don't bother playing" and "don't attempt anything remotely risky". |

"...while you are distracted or not paying attention. You also should never go afk in an area that has more than 0 monsters remain. Hell, I've died at least 20+ times going afk because something in life happened to distract me and I didn't want to waste a map portal. It sucks ass losing a lot of time but if there wasn't the risk of losing XP then it would lose meaning to having a strong enough character, both offensively and defensively, to make the long haul to 100. It would promote people to just build for offense with just enough defence to survive little spikes of damage here and there. I do agree and wish they'd implement a way for players to regain some of their lost XP like a tombstone or blood stain to mitigate the time loss and encourage you to go back and face the enemy that killed you. Grim Dawn, Diablo 2 and the Dark Souls series all have a way to recoup some of your loss when you do get killed. Sound the dread alarm, through the primal body! Sound the reveille, to be or not to be. Rise! Stay the grand finale! Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue. One drive to stay alive! Elementary, muster every fiber. Mobilize! Stay alive!
