No? What is the end of the game for you? Pvp sure not, because i dont think this game is balanced for that, not remotely.

From my pov the only purpose of this game is farm, or grind for your gear. For that you need an efficient character and equipament. When you have both things the games become funny and you can have fun sitting whatever thing comes to you. You cant simply have fun knowing that your character is not good enough.
I had fun with my first marauder that used "'heavy' strike". My meta and fun was to get the most damage posible with it. It was fun at first, then complete pain. Why? Lvling is really hard with a single target skill, and with a slow character (i know you can be fast, but at that time i didnt have anything). Melee splash at that moment reduced your single target damage. The orbs were really hard for me to get because i couldnt kill a massive amount of monsters, neither the strong ones because lack of farm/grind... turning into poor dps. Tried to add critical too burst dps and miserable failed because marauder heh, no accuracy (spending points on them rest for you hp and damage). Looking at other classes or builds made me feel really miserable. So i had to try other things... with the character i most enjoy. Ground slam was the answer in that moment. I met marohi erki, i wanted that at all costs, it was my new meta. Going araound, trying to farm piety it drops the oro's i have right now:

For one of those casualities i found a guide to flicker with it. From the start of the game to that point i denied myself from guides and etc, because my fun was to discover the game slowly. I was really amazed with the vids and what oros could do. So with my ground slam what in that moment was good enough to kill some mobs i farmed jews day after day until i got the 6s and then fus for the 6l.
Ive made flicker somehow work and i had a lot of fun. I stil have it, my flicker is 92 right now. With that i could make my marohi 6l. Whats the problem? Why isnt that enough for me? I cant kill, for example, atziri. Immune to ignite, thing i need to generate frenzies for my flicker. What happens with marohi? Its slow compared with other builds (my flicker for example). If it is slow, it levels slow and it becomes a pain for me. When i see something better than what i have, it becomes bad to my eyes. Having something bad it makes me feel like i dont progress or i failed. If i dont progress i dont have fun.

So after this, i will ask you, what is the fun into fail after all that? Playing with something that is not good leaves you a bad taste, a really bad one.

PoE has come a long, long way since 2013. I have a lot more confidence that the developers there know what they are doing and where they are steering their ship than I do with D3. PoE has only gotten better since it came out whereas with D3 I feel like the game is getting worse.

D3 has been a pendulum swinging back and forth since the game came out. RMAH! No RMAH! Open trading. Bind to account. Set bonuses suck balls. Make sets mandatory. Play the way you want! Don't deal damage unless you use the skills this set is focused on. It's the biggest cluster!@#$ of a game I've ever witnessed. It literally only excels in 2 areas. Smoothness of combat and good cinematics(ignoring that the story is %^-*).

Sounds to me like the OP just tried out 1 character in a much more complex game than D3, failed a little too hard and rather than remaking a character, he gave up. He could go back now and pick that character up and it'd have a full passive reset waiting on him, unless he deleted the character.

On all your balance concerns:

The second character I've done on PSC, I wanted to go Melee Raider, for teh lulz. No guides, no tree planned, nothing. I just went wild. She is now lvl 93, doing Atziri and shit, while using Wild Strike, which is considered to be bad.

Pre Ascendancy I've done T10 maps (Volcano) using only Summon Skeleton (which is considered to be beyond trash - for good reasons, too). Would I be able to do Atziri with that build? Nope. Did I have fun? Oh, yes, I did. Especially when I was buying 21/20 Summon Skele gem from a guy for 20c. :D He then had some lolz at my character name (SkeliesAreViableOrBust). Had fun = good build.

It is not about having the biggest beniz, DPS or clear speed in the village, at all times. If you only find fun in that, I pitty you. It must be hard. :v
I sure play glass cannon retarderos on SC sometimes, but on the other hand I like that HC tension. I sometimes play massively underrated skills, and the other day I want to try that cookie-cutter meta lawnmower that everyone is talking about (which is quite rare, given you can quite easily find people using such builds).
And I'm not saying that GGG shouldn't balance those skills - they should. But I will still have fun while they are bad.

What I'm trying to say - you shouldn't be killing yourself about it. Just let it gooo, let it goooooooooooo...

You can kill atziri with oro's, you will not generate frenzy but you can use the weapon with another skill: lightning strike, molten, static...

What if i want to use flicker and not other skill because its funny to me? "Find the solution and play with your favourite skill elsewhere". It seems that "fun" is not allowed in atziri with a flicker build heh.
