I have been scammed before. I don't blame anyone except myself for being scammed, I was an idiot. Lost a Soul Taker back in the day when it was damn expensive.
To me, it seems that GGG's policy is that small infrequent scamming is fine and they don't bother to correct. Somehow certain scamming like Bandit PK'ing used to be a big issue as well, but was tolerated. However once you go large scale scamming, and messing with a lot of people's money - that's when the knives come out. And GGG has no choice to intervene. Scamming for an entire day? In my case, the guy who scammed my Soul Taker had been scamming for months. Only once all of us got organized and started demanding GGG to ban him did he finally get banned. Did he deserve to get banned? Not really because we were all idiots for allowing ourselves to get scammed. He got banned I guess because it started becoming a big issue which can make the game toxic. Saying "It's your fault that you been scammed" and "We cannot help your case" is completely different thing.
Same goes to the ToS. Is there any clear indication about scamming being allowed in PoE ? I haven't seen any. To OP You maybe scammed because you can or being defiant through your experiences but I don't think GGG lock someone's account because they can. Hope you finding your answer here. Everything I do should be wrong so please correct me if I do it right <3

He had been scamming for months (i.e. maybe one item from 1 or 2 people every week), but these were usually very nice items (i..e Soul Taker, high-end daggers, Aegis, BofR) - this may seem like trash but back in the day these were very expensive items in high-demand.
I don't have proof that you are asking for like a GGG explanation that he was banned. In fact, I didn't expect anything to happen to him because I knew I was just an idiot for being scammed in the first place. However, one day I went on forums and saw his account had the "banned" tag. Again, this is not a new issue and is tolerated to some extent. I've also been scammed on map rotations, and zana rotations but this is not a big deal as supposed to losing a lot of currency / nice items. Once you start pissing off too many people, especially with currency, it gets next level. |
