What's up with the rarity of alchemy/exalted orbs?
|
I've always been wondering even since .92 why exalted orbs were rarer than alchemys. Alchemys can give at least 4 mods on an item but exalted only gives 1 mod. And right now, because of its rarity, it's pretty much a high percentage chance that if you use the 1 exalted orb you managed to found, the mod would turn out useless. This renders exalted impractical and is better off being sold.
What would be better is to reverse the respective rarity of alchemy and exalted and make regals a bit rarer than augmentations. Not only this would make more sense, it would also make regals/transmutes/augmentations more practical to use. This is a better crafting setup then just applying an alchemy (because it's relatively common) to every good base item and then chaos it to satisfaction. it's because exalted orbs are to be only used on 'perfect ' blue items, which have been upgraded to rares, for even better items ... not to use on random rares :P

Regal and Exalted are rare because Alteration Orbs are common and easy to farm. Think about it.

Yes alterations are easy to find but even if you use 20-25 alterations, it's still unlikely you will get a 150%ed weapon. And adding regals/exalteds aren't guaranteed good mods for "perfect" blues.
Regals and exalteds rarity makes it more often an not a loss for using it. Last edited by shield#7836 on Dec 30, 2011, 5:34:09 PM

" u cant get a 150% ed weapon from alteration because u need 2 prefixes for a weapon with more than 129% ed. and blues always spawn with 1 pre and 1 suffix. reagal and exalted are used on perfect/close 2 perfect blues with key mods to make them even better. or on great rares with open slots. the best items we'll see in this game are very likely to be crafted from scratch. u have much better controll over certain mods and chances are much higher to hit the right mods if u allready have 2 desired from alteration. 20-25 is nothing by the way... |

Personally I agree with the OP.
I don't like the idea of Orbs that are simply too valuable to trade then to use. Kinda defeats the purpose. It's not the rarity as much as the crapshoot of using them. Turning a blue into a 3 mod rare with some of the most expensive orbs in the game, then using IMO even more expensive orbs(exalted)is honestly, just stupid. I dont like the feeling I should hoard all my fun stuff(orbs) simply because the results never outweigh the positives of simply having them on hand to trade. I dont know if I ever just hoarded resources this bad in other arpgs. I dont even like trading them either. Just holding them. Never felt like that in another arpg. The chance that regal doesnt give some resist or some stupid stats, its still a 3 mod rare. The best rares so far have been drops or some alch/chaos rolls. Its simply not smart to use regals. Exalteds are different, they are great and can be used on good rares. I dunno if I could stomach dropped a regal and a few exalted on a blue item. Thats putting a lot of eggs in 1 basket, a basket this game obviously likes to keep shut seeing how they made getting even 100 ed weapons a pain in the rear. I dont understand this hardcore lockdown on good stats/higher lvl mods. Is it needed? Loot is the primary reason for playing a hack and slash game. Running around in mediocre gear all the time kinda defeats the purpose. Thats a far worse outcome to me then running around in good gear. Take for instance, my friend has rolled/traded in 53 meatgrinders. Not 1 100 ed meatgrinder. Last edited by Destructodave#2478 on Dec 30, 2011, 6:48:32 PM

" Cruel prefix gives up to 149 ed. And you're not understanding the point. You want to have control to a certain degree over the items you craft not just randomly right click an alchemy orb then a white item. And why would the chances be much higher to hit the right mods if you already have two from alterations? The chances are pretty much the same. Using any regals/exalteds is just gambling with low odds. Even if you had the right mods for a blue, the cost-benefit just isn't there. To illustrate my point, I had a blue onyx amulet with +18 all attributes/ +84 life for both mods. Applying one of my two regals to it gave +6% cold res which is completely useless. I have a better chance of using 10 alchemys to get mods that I like than to use a bunch of alterations and limited regal/exalts that I have for good mods. " cruel is not possible to spawn in the game atm. and if u had hit 70%+ crit dmg u would have an uber amulett.. (depending on your build) it comes down to luck.. and its much easier to hit 1 good mod if u allready have 2 of them with high rolls then 3 high rolls of your desired mods with an alchemy..thats my point. it also cant be expected to craft the uber shit with a single regal. its all about luck while crafting and chances are very low. (u wouldnt expect to win in the lottery every time u play) if u feel better crafting with alchemy keep the higher orbs and trade what u want for them.. |

" It can now. That was one of the changes they made in the 0.9.5 patch without telling anybody... I think it's the 3rd 58... the monsters start dropping ilvl 59 gear instead, and then the bosses in those zones drop ilvl 60 gear, which can spawn the next tier of ed mods. IGN: Jerk, Princess
