VAAL Fight OP for Solo Evasion
" Oh wow, this is the most unreal template I have ever seen. No wonder you get one-shot all the time. Hits that I hardly notice in the midst of my whirling spam will kill you. I go 40+ on cold and 60+ fire/lightning resists and I had about twice as much Life as you. Pure Evasion needs to refer to a gear choice, not a node choice; you CANNOT get all evasion nodes and no life nodes; this is not a game where you just automatically gain a bunch of life every time you level up - you need to spend nodes for it and get it in your gear. Evasion has diminishing returns - look at the equation; Accuracy is EXPONENTIALLY more important than Evasion Rating. A lot of people seem to freak out at this and whine about having to spec all Life - but that is fail too. This is a game where you cannot min-max much of anything, you have to balance offense and survivability, and you have to balance how you achieve survivability - when someone says they are going pure Evasion I expect that to mean they are using Evasion as their sole compliment to Life - which as the previous poster noted every build MUST have unless it is CI. |

Pfff, it's so easy to dodge it. I only got hit by it twice: the first time i fought him. A second time when i was helping someone, i got cocky and wasn't paying attention.
Desync is not a huge issue, just attack - move - attack - move - etc in circles around him and he'll always miss you. |

" I said I don't get one shot a few times. It is the OP who had even more health than me says he gets one shot. I have never been one shot with the hp I have and I am now in act 3 clearing the slums, warehouse, and the under ground cemetery. I just had my first fight with piety and kicked her ass. I now have projectiles and after I got projectiles I planned on getting all health nodes. Health nodes would not have helped me in the vaal fight at all. My template so far rocks, but the minions that spawn during the Vaal fight make it impossible to beat him solo. Vaal never one hits me, his minions who all hit me almost no matter what all at once, do hurt me way too much. I happen to think Vaal is ridiculously easy for group play and something should be changed to make it harder. I barely did anything and could have easily done nothing...It was one of the most boring fights I have had so far. For solo evasion though it is EXTREMELY hard and the lag yesterday made it impossible. The lag is a server problem. So why after Vaal am I wrecking maps again? Even the bosses. I am not saying it is easy, it is challenging as it should be, but no where near as hard as Vaal, not even the bosses and this is a whole other Act. Vaal is too hard solo for evasion templates without specific gems like one poster here mentioned who beat it on three different evasion characters with temporal chains et cetera. That is a twinked out character though /shrug. I am sure I could have beat him twinked out with certain gems and armor since the first time when there was no server lag I got him to half hp it was just his minions stopping me from even getting to him that was my problem, Vaal was no problem albeit challening. I don't want the game dumbed down I am an FFA pvp lose all your equipment type person. I want Vaal to be HARDER in group play and some way made for Vaal to be possible solo with evasion templates that aren't simply gear dependent. Last edited by johnce6#2478 on Feb 23, 2013, 1:31:03 PM

hey guess what i am running this game on a mac now there are a lof of animation issues with this game for me atm even after the darkness is lifted the only way i can tell where he is is because of some air distortion and a lot of shadows going around.... sorta i dont even see him lift the hammer ....
i do live after getting hit with it though i got around 550 hp or so lvl 30 but ima templar and had molten shell on its anoying though i finally managed to kill him with firestorm wich seems to hit decently well on him he gets hit by quite a lot of the projectiles ... that being said i would like to see the hammer coming but agreed its a very though boss to deal with and i dont have maxed resists at all so his lightning bolt wich i cant really see either hits really hard as well |

just yet another mechanic in the game that screws over melee while the hammer itself is easy to avoid the rest of the encounter your running from laser blast (cant stand still) or chasing down constructs across the room. trying to melee in this encounter means only engaging him about 5% of the time.
as an evasion based your better off keeping a fire or bear trap on hand and just tossing it on him every cooldown while running in circles. |

" I'm taking that for my signature. Fucking nailed it. Thank you. ___ @OP: I didn't read the whole thread but I don't see many people addressing what you mentioned and what I find to be the killer in the Normal difficulty Oversoul fight: those fucking sniper constructs. If the Oversoul spawns all snipers, my evader dies. Other than that, Oversoul isn't so bad. Those snipers, though, yeesh. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" btw if you made it that far facetanking him i congratulate you thats some serious tanking potential you have. |

" I am still waiting for a good argument why pure HP stacking should be more viable than pure evasion stacking. |

" It's not that it should be, it's that it is. There's a big difference there. Besides, reading this thread is like listening to 2 deaf people engaged in a shouting match. Neither is hearing the other and is just constantly repeating their own point. The people saying Vaal is easy keep saying they dodge his attacks and that even a level 1 character can eventually kill him(I guess there's a video of it or something otherwise I'd still find it hard to believe, if only because of the constructs). The people saying Vaal is hard are either new players who don't know how to approach him(and don't listen to the advise in this thread) or people who do suffer desync issues in Vaal, while others don't seem to be. Fact of the matter is that Vaal is the only boss that's being heavily discussed, any other boss rarely mentioned on the forums/in game, it's all about Vaal. Some people find it cakewalk since they dodge everything he has, others die to it repeatedly. To toss my 2 cents in, people have different connections, different computer specs, etc, you can't tell someone that he isn't supposed to have desync issues in the Vaal fight when he does have desync issues. You need to be in his own shoes, with his own computer and connection to know what he is and isn't supposed to be experiencing, otherwise you're doing both you and him a disservice when you judge him on such. Other than the desync issues, the people dying to Vaal should be read up the advise in this thread, and many others, as that advise is tried, proven, sound and works for all classes, melee and range alike. If you don't have lag, desync issues, graphics issues, etc, than there's absolutely no reason for you to die to Vaal if you follow the common strategies against him. If you do than you should find out the causes for your problems(bad graphics card, bad ISP, bad machine, etc) and fix them, otherwise just pray that the stars will align for you to be able to beat Vaal without any of these issues biting you in the butt. |

" Because it's mathematically more efficient? In most games, including this one, the only way to spec a full evasion build is to invest everything into it. Meaning you're using more passives for evasion than for HP. You'll never hit 100% evasion so eventually you're getting hit. Armor is only so good but you have even less HP than everyone else. So when you DO get hit, you're losing a higher percentage of your health than those who went for HP. Let's not forget that most mobs in this game come in packs and it's a separate dice roll for every incoming attack. If there's a ton of mobs, you're going down anyway since you have relatively no HP. On that note, the only really threatening attacks from bosses aren't even physical, they're magical. Brutus is almost full physical and you can simply click away from all of his attacks. Merveil has Ice Spear and Cold Snap. Vaal's hammer is easily dodged but, at least for me, I find the laser hard to track. Piety's almost full lightning except for the final fight in Lunaris and you can simply pop a Quicksilver to run away from her fire form. What's the advantage of evasion aside from CI builds or a secondary form of mitigation? If you're reading this, I'm probably on another year-long ban.
Thanks GGG. |
