Dualwielding shields please

ok building on the idea of shield's here is what i was thinking

people should be able to make "timed" blocks that are based on the players skill with it you would be able to negate physical ranged attacks and if the person so wishes he can build passive's that help him shield better against magic attacks with after he blocks an attack the shield receives the impact and based on the players stats it remains in "block" or gets thrown out

(imagine a templar blocking a sweep from a powerful marauder and his shield gets "pushed" away asuming the marauder has more strength)

where there is a second or 2 for the other player/monster to attack since an opening is created

here with dual shield the other shield would be readily available however and you could block again

the use of these blocks would consume a X amount of mana (since it would tire you out)

and thus making the aspect of a tank much more of an active "fun" role then the just passiveness it receives in pretty much every game were the "soak up as much as you can" is the norm
I feel that this idea could work well with thorn stats.
So I just read the entire damn thread. There was maybe 4 posts discussing proposed mechanics for this idea, and the rest was a nerdy flame f*ckfest. I may have skipped over through half way on some posts, and I apologize, but the "You're stupid!" "No, you're stupid!" playground insults were absolutely asinine.

While it's extremely tempting to demean Crizaig's uncanny rules of how fantasy games should be designed, I'm not going to fuel that fire.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this idea. Customization is a great thing, and I would expect nothing less than this idea being brought to the table in a game like Path of Exiles; being a game taking leaps and bounds to diversify the play-style for their audience. I see it being nifty for some people to fiddle with, but even less people completely dedicating an entire skill tree around the build.

While I don't anticipate the inclusion of this idea to the game, it's always left a thorn in my side that I couldn't equip two shields, even if it's just for novelty's sake. I don't care if it's appallingly useless, I just want to do it. Maybe the boss I'm fighting is extremely resistant to lightning, which is the element my entire build is based around, so I want to just tank it for my friends. That red box makes it seem like it's physically impossible to wear two shields and that bothers me. Fantasy games are about fulfilling fantasies. Some developers do a better job thinking outside the box, and not blocking access to divulge your imagination with a red box.

Good post Clauderic, that's what I'm thinking to. Not every idea must make perfect sense. If someone wants to equip 2 shields, then let him. Of course this would only go for small and mid sized shields (bigger ones are out of question imo, because that may be like wearing 2 two handed weapons).
GGG said that it will not gonna happen because caster classes get enormous advantage with double shield wield.

Hateful post.
Then why not diminish the effect of casting smashing-boards when paired. Dual smashing-boards could be fun.
If you remember, they nerfed shields by making quality no longer adding block chance on them.
How do you think, will they allow players to stack it in so simple way?
Hateful post.
How about this:

Small-shields (round shield, spiked shield, plate shield)
and
Large Shields (kite shield, tower shield, Wide shield)

Only small shields can be wielded in main hand and doing so gives small buff to chance to block but since it's small it has inherently low armor rating.
Small shields could be better for DEX users and large shields for STR. A number of possibilities are opening here.

Thoughts?

Dual weapons is nice,

But dual shield...in my opnion it's stupid
How about, instead of turning shields into weapons (and all the programming change that may come with that), they introduce a new type of melee weapon that looks like a shield, has higher armor and chance to block, with lower damage? This might solve some of the logistical problems.

flashybr, we've been through the "it's stupid' thing already in this thread.
