Caster CI / GR Leech Pathetic / Broken Builds

@Boem

You've always been into making neeto hybrid builds; looking forwards to seeing how it turns out.
That said, it would probably only work well with that armor.

Back on topic....
There's also the issue of being able to get armor/endurance as a CI character (melee or not) due to stat requirements, tree efficiency, and grabbing enough ES nodes to have a reasonable pool.

All I can say is any leech or regen for CI is a waste.

Would love someone to come up with a solution for CI itself.

ATM, its and run wait for yourself to recover, then back into the action.

Happy Hunting Exiles.
@bump, GGG need to see this thread and do something about CI builds.
bump.

imho 2.0 is the worst balance patch ever made in PoE history. Don't get me wrong, I love the new content but the nerf hammer hit much too hard and at too many places at the same time.

Many cool and fun builds are not possible anymore
Build diversity suffered
- ES builds unplayable
- Claws becoming useless for endgame
- Fortify & Endurance charges mandatory for most builds
- existing defenses nerfed, increased monster damage,...
- Reduced Mana nerf.
- mana nerf (Eldtrich Battery, Leech), makes Clarity more or less mandatory for most builds if you want to be able to sustain during single target boss fights > even less defensive/offensive auras

Therefore player damage gets greatly reduced as we have to spend a lot more points on defenses, and mana. Also we have to sacrifice a 3/4L for Fortify and probably a golem.
imho an ARPG should be a fast paced game but all of these changes slow the pace down considerably.

I don't have enough experience with 2.0 yet but I think all the good ideas like jewels, divination cards and the new skills can not make up for the nerfs and ES disaster we have right now.

I can also not understand the stat changes on already acquired items. GGG never did that before, why now and why not consistently and get rid of all legacy items at once? or why not rename standard to legacy league, leave all the items untouched and let people who love to steamroll PoE have there fun and enjoy the game? Then in the new standard league always modify all items according to balance changes and make sure no legacy items can ever exist. It wouldn't be hard to give options for most players taste.

For a long time PoE was called Path of Life and ranged was so much superior to melee. With 1.2/1.3 my impression was that melee and ranged where finally balanced quite well. 2.0 feels like going back to Path of Life/Fortify and back to ranged.

In the last week I wished a couple of times that we could have private servers and stick with 1.3 until everything is fixed and balanced for 2.x

Omg, so funy.

So no defence CI whas face roling and complain it cant do it now?

You think melee whit armor, 6-8 endurance and fortify, granite, artic armor, 4-6% life regeneration doing thos things for the fun?

Exactly how long can you fight WITHOUT using a life flask with your best and most defensiv build?

Going into melee range without stun and freeze immunity to apply Fortify is a great idea , Endurance Charges are also next to CI, ES, GR and life-regen nodes...

On top of that if your playing an ES based toon there is a very big chance you have to use Discipline, when you're a caster then there seems to be no way around Clarity as well which - thanks to the reduced mana nerf - leaves you no room for any other defensive aura like Grace or Determination.

It's not that ES users don't like to incorporate defenses, it's more that ES builds need to many points to get them. Unwavering is on the other side of the tree, GR and ZO are on opposite sides, we can't use Acrobatics, Endurance Charges and regen nodes are too far away, we can't leech from physical, we can't use Bloodrage anymore and there are no synergies.. imho our best shots are Vaal Discipline, Vaal Grace and maybe block.

Want a challenge? Try to level as ES and beat Cruel Dominus without constantly portal out. If you manage try A4 bosses. Use whatever defenses and skills you want as long as it's a CI based toon... When you manage, PLEASE come back and share your insights and build with us!

I must object to your first assertion.

Running a ZO regeneration caster tank is a perfectly viable option for CI in 2.0. It may not allow all that much build diversity due to the considerable cost of picking up 11.1% regeneration from the templar/marauder areas together with 180%+ ES from templar/witch, picking up a lot of armour% along the way and and running vitality and discipline to get the most out of it, but it does result in an uncommonly strong tank. Then again - perhaps it would also work with less tankier builds - all it takes is somebody willing to test and find out.

I am aware that this does not address the grievances with regards to GR life leech, but please don't say that caster CI in general and regeneration in specific doesn't work or is a waste: With the 2.0 changes both Dy'Ness CI-ES tank build and my own variant (which has more of a focus on damage) are stronger than they were in 1.3.

It does raise the issue that anything done to strengthen CI directly will almost invariably make these already strong CI tanks even stronger.
I'm actually doing 100% fine. Almost 25k tooltip with incinerate, nearly 8k ES, LL linked to incinerate ect. I'm actually doing very, very well, but I do agree that if I had life gear as good as my ES gear, I'd go life.

I think I'm only at around 3% life regen and the 2% leech from 21/20 life leech gem.
I rebuilt my MF CI Arc Witch earlier this week, 9k ES and 16k Arc, leeching about 50-100 ES while taking 1k-1.5k damage hits.

Result :
Spoiler
I lost 60% EXP.

I understand they wanted to do something with life leech, but 1/5'ing it? Wtf seriously.
Today I tried to resurrect my CI ball lightning witch to see how things were going. Her DPS is much worse than it was because ball lightning got purposelessly decimated (pointless skill gem nerfs deserve their own thread), but she has 8.4k es plus 6 zombies and a chaos golem for protection. Max res of course, plus 11% evade and 25% block/spell block for whatever those are worth.

It did not go well.

After getting the 3 new skill points, I tried doing level 73 maps to squeeze out a few more levels since shes only 87. I was getting destroyed by Temple Piety and Colonnade Carnage - in white maps. I cannot emphasize this enough, so I will repeat it: white maps. Piety usually didn't hurt too bad and I was using topaz flasks, but at certain points I'd suddenly get stun locked and my life seemed to completely disappear. Carnage was just impossible - 6k damage per hit. Not exaggerating, it was 6k damage per hit. Both of them had crazy amounts of life, too, although as I mentioned before my DPS isn't great.

I don't really know what to do, so I'm just going to abandon this character. It's obviously possible for me to purchase gear with more es and someday I probably will, but if the raw damage done by these bosses remains as high as it is, I'm not sure if more es will help.

I have a blood magic fire caster who's coming up through the levels right now. His DPS looks like itll be much better and he'll have high life plus at least some armor/evasion, but I'm still worried that I'll hit an impassible wall with the new overtuned map bosses. I'm totally willing to accept that I need to skip certain content, but I can't really rectify the status quo with GGG's laughable statement that they want us to fight bosses.

Sorry for the salt, guys. But it's real, and it's in my eyes. Stings.
We're all in this leaky boat together, people.
